We have a campsite near Lake George in Skowhegan and we added a few sites to share with friends and family. We are going to rent out few places to unplug and enjoy the outdoors. This is a tent but we have included some of the comforts of home. There is power to charge your phone, AC to keep you cool, a refrigerator to keep your drinks cold, lights and a coffee maker.

There’s a bathhouse to shower and clean up. We are working on getting the septic system installed and have a portable toilet to use until it’s completed. From the campsite you can take a 10 minute walk down to the lake or you can spend the day hiking. You can drive down to the boat landing and put your kayak in the water or continue up the road to enjoy a nice sandy beach.

Barred Owl Farm Getaway

Denali, our farm hound, looks forward to greeting you. The sheep, pigs, and chickens will also enjoy seeing you. 

Our farm cabin has a great feel of being connected to nature.  It is quiet, cozy and a wonderful place to watch the sunset overlooking grazing animals.  The cabin has a queen bed in the downstair bedroom and another double bed in the loft.  The couch in the sitting room also folds-out to a double bed for the children. We use high-quality cotton sheets, pillows and down comforters - to assure you will be cozy and feel pampered. 

We provide coffee/tea service in the morning in our farm store.  By reservation, we serve a full country breakfast ($14/pp) and four-course farm-to-table dinners with many ingredients from our farm ($65/pp). 

By reservation, we also offer a special evening of our own chef-made wood-fired pizza, backyard fire and Downeast company. Many of the ingredients are from our farm. BOYB. ($50/pp; groups of 4 or more $40/pp) Discounts for families with children. 

The cabin does not have heat, electricity or running water. We provide numerous battery-charged lights and candles making this a is cozy, relaxing and perfect way to experience Maine farm life. An outhouse is nearby.  We provide an outdoor hot-water shower.  

Plan to visit our farm store where you can buy goat-milk soap, beeswax candles, organic wool pillows, sheep and goat skins and other creations made by Patti.

Loads of hiking trails are right out our door or wander down the gravel road. 

Visiting the animals (sheep, pigs, chickens and, of course, Denali - the farm hound) is always a highlight for guests. Please leave your own dog at home, thank you. 

 Chris is a proud Mainer and natural tour guide. He will be happy to provide you with his favorite recommendations and hidden gems.

For the past nine years, hundreds of people have enjoyed seeing the lambs, visiting our pigs, walking on our trails, and relaxing in a cell-free zone.

Good access road for your RV. The amazing views include Owl's Head lighthouse and Matinicus island in the very far distance, sunrise over Ragged Mountain and the Camden hills. To the north the Dixmont, and Bangor areas are visible. Watch the sunset to the west over Sennebec pond and Appleton ridge. To the southwest Mt. Washington may be just visible on a clear day. 75 acres of open fields and woodlands to explore at your leisure.

Among the hidden gems you might find

are a vernal brook, a distant field that is

totally secluded and an oak tree with a heart!

 Deer, wild Turkeys, Hawks, Owls and Bald Eagles are frequent visitors. 

The small town of Union also hosts the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival and the Maine Antiques Festival. The Lobster Festival is nearby in Rockland every August.

Only one rental allowed at a time - so you get breathtaking beauty all for yourself - and those with you!

Note: Part of the land is a working Wild Blueberry farm and as such, on rare occasions, the quiet is interrupted to care for the crop. Should that take place we will credit you with a free day's stay.

Maine Primitive Skills School

The land was purchased by Mike and Karen Douglas in 1996 and has been the site of their residence and that of Maine Primitive Skills School, which teaches Wilderness Awareness, Survival and Self-Reliance Skills to hundreds of students from around the country and the globe each year. The land is split by Church Hill Road. The west side of the road is where the majority of the school's facilities are located and where most of the day-to-day activities take place. The plot east of the road is used for overnight experiences and as a place to observe animal tracks and sign. The forest here is a classroom as much as it is a garden. It has been tended with a caretaker attitude for two decades to increase the bounty of edible foods for animals and humans alike. We hope that all our visitors can enjoy and carry on this tradition by participating conscientiously with our sacred forest.Learn more about this land:Park your car at our parking lot near the road. Cross the boardwalk over the wetland. Walk through the clearing up a slight incline, to the trail-head, through the mixed hardwood forest, to a secluded campsite where you can watch the stars and listen to the sounds of the forest in the privacy of your campsite. Over 1000 acres of quiet State Wildlife Management land sits adjacent to our plot of land and is yours to explore! If you're up for a hike, follow the ATV trail to Spectacle Pond which is a 100-acre lake with an island in the middle. There are two disc golf courses within walking distance down the road from the trail-head if that's more your style.  We run Maine Primitive Skills School, and the main facilities are located across the road. We rent out this area of the property to campers when we are not utilizing it for courses. Feel free to come on over and say hi! Enjoy our 1825 Maine homestead; large back yard with woods, privacy too. Large river; hiking trail nearby, ocean beach about 3 miles away, attractive fishing village 5 miles away

Pitch a tent in the yard or back woods, inside bath available 24/7. Rustic camping. This is our backyard and no real assigned camping spots. We can accommodate Rv’s and campers in the front driveway, as well. Can be noisy due to being right on the roadway.  But this is right on the road, so Not suggested. Bicycle 3 miles to a sand beach, or half mile to the st. George river and; historic fort. Hiking trails, picturesque fishing villages nearby.  Great backyard camping experience with picnic area and fire pit for use. Must have lights. We are not a campground. Please arrive before dark to set up. Great location for touring the area and attractions
