About Tyme Farm

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents26 acres · Westminster, MD
About Tyme Farm is a 26 plus acre privately owned farm used for crops such as corn, soy beans and sunflowers. The property includes a 150+ year old stone farm house, large historic barn on the barn quilt tour in Carroll County, renovated camping cabin for those not into rough camping, fields, streams , woods for hiking, plenty of wild life and lots of quiet. The farm is surrounded by other farms in the agricultural preservation program yet you are only 5 miles from stores, movies, antiques and other aspects of civilization or entertainment if needed. Enjoy watching the deer come out of the woods and meander along the stream and fields at dusk and return in the morning. Electric, water, fire pit and a Port a Pot is available even for rough campers. Pets welcome but must be on a leash or exercise pen or with their owners in some way while here for their safety. There is a large fenced yard for dogs that just have to run if needed. Glamorous camping with a furnished heated/cooled cabin is available for rent by the night for those who do not have camping equipment or do not want to rough it. For those that have been camping before and have all the equipment there is plenty of room for a tent or camper near the buildings or by the stream or woods. For RV owners there is 50amp electric service in the barn. You will need an RV extension cord to access it. I have a 100 ft RV ext. cord but it can be farther than that depending on where you park. Bring one of your own to be sure. It is a farm and not set up like an RV park with numerous outlets.

Harwood Hills Farm Glamping

5 sites · Lodging100 acres · Harwood, MD
This is the definition of Glamping and certainly the finest around the area. 21+ only. The property is around 100 acres, not far from the Patuxent River and has been in our family for nearly 80 years, we are the fourth generation to live on the farm. There is only one luxurious site available and you have complete privacy as the opening in the forest that the camp sits in is surrounded by forest. A 10x20 deck holds a 10x12 canvas tent with a luxurious queen-sized bed, all linens included. The bed is flanked by vintage nightstands and lamps. You have 2 USB outlets to keep your devices charged and a chandelier to brighten things up in the evening. A bar cabinet including a wine opener and ice bucket sits across for a comfortable vintage velvet chair and ottoman with a tray for your cocktails. A storage bench sits at the foot of the bed. Outside you have a well-equipped kitchen including a coffee percolator, pots and an iron frying pan. A small sink has cold running water to wash up and a separate bottled drinking water dispenser. The 2-burner stove is complete with an oven. A set of enameled tin dishes, mugs, reusable plastic glasses and flatware are stored in the kitchen cupboard. Eat at a glass topped table for 2 on the deck. Your campfire pit has a grill, and you can relax by the fire and watch the stars in the 2 lounging Adirondack chairs. Just steps away from your deck is an out of this world outhouse with hot and cold running water at the sink, vintage lighting and mirror, towel racks with fluffy white linens, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. A dry flush toilet, almost like your toilet at home. Attached to the bathroom and just at the edge of the forest, is an incredible outdoor rain shower with hot and cold water. You are surrounded by acres and acres of old forest and a creek or two to explore. There are maintained walking trails for you to enjoy all around the property.

Farm glamping in Washington, DC guide

Overview

Camp, glamp, or stay in a rental cabin near the capital of the United States. The area around Washington DC offers campers the chance to explore nature-diverse landscapes and the nation’s most notable landmarks. Set up shop at Greenbelt Park for well-maintained campsites not far from the White House. Or journey farther to Virginia for Shenandoah National Park and Prince William Forest Park, both of which offer on-site camping and RV sites, as well. The DC area is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway to nearby parks along the Potomac River—on both the Maryland and Virginia sides. With cityscapes and nature to explore, Washington DC campers will find it easy to balance urban amenities with epic natural adventures.

Where to go

Greenbelt Park

Cozy up for camping less than 15 miles from the White House. With over 170 campsites, Greenbelt Park is the perfect urban camping getaway. It features flower-filled hiking and equestrian trails and Sweetgum Picnic Area, which has a playground for kids. Full hookups, fire pits, potable water, and picnic tables offer RVers and tent campers alike a comfortable home base near the nation’s capital while exploring local nature, historical sites, and NASA Goddard Visitor Center.

Shenandoah National Park

Venture to Northern Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, less than two hours from Washington DC. Rolling hills, hiking trails, and waterfalls wisp through the land, creating epic views and scenic sites. Traverse a piece of the Appalachian Trail and get a glimpse of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Featuring over 600 RV and tent sites, Shenandoah National Park also offers permit-only backcountry camping. It should be noted that there are no electrical hookups in the park, though campers can find seasonal dump stations and potable water.

Prince William Forest National Park

Pull into Prince William Forest National Park for a perfect blend of history and nature. Preservation and conservation remain top priorities for the park, which was nominated for the National Register of Historical Places. With 15,000 acres to explore, the park features miles of hiking along tree-covered trails with off-road biking options and orienteering classes too. Find two on-site campgrounds and clusters of historic cabins in the park. Campsites include fire pits, potable water, and picnic tables surrounded by lush forest.

When to go

Experience the beauty of changing seasons in Washington DC. The area's subtropical climate creates hot and humid summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures reach an average of 85°F, while winter weather brings lows in the mid 20s. DC area summers are perfect for hiking, biking, and late-night stargazing, though the humidity means mosquitoes and other bugs are prevalent—bug spray, mosquito nets, and after-bite relief products may be necessary.
