Great location! My stay at the Foxes Farm was exactly what I was looking for. It was calm and quiet and allowed me a chance to relax and recharge. Kat and Steve were wonderful hosts, warm and welcoming and super friendly. I highly recommend getting the apple turnovers! They were amazing and reason enough to stay here again.

What I loved about the Farm View site was an electric hook up and the use of a clean bathroom and shower.
Please note this is a farming community with chickens (roosters) and dogs in the neighborhood. That is the noise that is around. There are other people on the property at other sites. Kat is super accommodating and nice. I have stayed here twice and hope to be back.

We camped at site #4, a shady site on a small rise at Sawyers Bar. It’s a little above the Cosumnes River, but a short walk from a common area swimming hole with small beach. The swimming hole is delightful in mid-September.

Our family had an amazing late summer experience - hiking, swimming and enjoying this beautiful ranch in Amador County along the Consumnes River. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. For swimming, Tom recommended the Swimming Hole at Sawyer’s Bar, which was perfect for our six year old - a nice sandy beach with little to no current in the shallows. The campsite was spacious and clean with lots of shade and plenty of space between other sites, which made the site feel very private. We visited with a travel trailer and thought the dirt road to the campsites was well maintained when we visited. We cannot wait to visit again!

First and foremost, Kat & Steve are amazing people and hosts! We came as a large group of 15 (6 adults and 9 kids) and stayed in tents. The facilities were excellent — clean, well-kept, and convenient. Having access to both power and water made the stay especially comfortable and easy to manage with kids.
The property has a warm and welcoming vibe that made everyone feel at home right away. The kids had plenty of space to run around and explore, while the adults could relax and enjoy the peaceful setting. Kat & Steve were thoughtful, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay.

I wanted to take my four-year-old camping for Labor Day weekend. I booked two weeks before, and we pulled up to meet the Foxes. Gems of humans and like becoming their 30th grandkid. Firewood ignited immediately so even the most novice fire builder will be successful. My daughter was adopted by kids in the next site over, and it felt like a cousins weekend. But the other sites felt more cut off from all that, if that’s not what you’re looking for. Recommend the Barbara Morse Wackford Community & Aquatic Complex in Elk Grove for a hot summer day trip.
The Cattail Island spot is just that with dragonflies buzzing overhead at dusk and a few frogs singing you to sleep in a site with pretty good privacy considering it’s in someone’s backyard.
Full bathroom with ADA shower and laundry, so that would be great for people in the middle of a longer road trip.
Long story short, I got to camp with my daughter by ourselves, but it felt like we were immediately part of a bigger family for the weekend. We will absolutely keep this spot on our radar for other holiday weekends. Hope to see you again, Foxes!

Organized a group of 4 families all with kids under 6 to camp for Labor Day weekend. Everyone had a blast splashing around in the river during the heat of the day. Definitely would consider going back another time!

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! The cold river was perfect for a refreshing float on warm days. Our spot was private with plenty of room to spread out and relax. The host was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The area was free to explore, and nights were wonderfully quiet.

The camp site was private and spacious. The sound of the creek was really pleasant, and there is a tree you can put your tent under to prevent being hit with the sun first thing in the morning! The bathroom and amenities were very convenient, as was access to everything. I really liked this place and watched a beautiful sunset from my site. As I packed up to leave in the morning, I was greeted by the friendly and adorable barn kitty! All around great stay!

What a magical place! Hiking, Fishing & Swimming while enjoying all the dragonflies & butterflies. Took some fabulous pictures that I must print!! Peaceful, Private & Clean. Tom shared some history of the property & even some very cool pictures of his own. Loved the gated entry & all the friendly deer that hopped along side our RV as we found our perfect site near the river. It was just perfect. Thank you for sharing this hidden gem.

We stayed at site 4 sawyers bar. Overall amazing experience. Cleanest Porto potties I have ever seen, lots of space between sites. Rachel was super easy to communicate with and Tom was great. The swimming hole was perfect for kids. Nice big sandy beach about 2 min walk from site and crystal clear water.

We stayed at the Fox's land for the third time with our family. It was as beautiful and fun as always. We enjoy the peaceful countryside very much. The kids had so much fun with the trampoline and open space. Kat and Steve are wonderful hosts, very kind and welcoming. We hope to come back soon.

Where to go
Around Auburn
Private RV parks north of Auburn offer tent and RV sites, along with deluxe amenities. East of Auburn, the Auburn State Recreation Area offers hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, and the North and Middle Forks of the American River. Three campgrounds offer primitive and boat-in campsites. Head to Coloma for rafting along the South Fork of the American River and riverside camping in a tent, RV, or cabin.
Tahoe and Eldorado National Forests
Auburn is well placed to access both the Tahoe National Forest and the Eldorado National Forest, with nearly 1.5 million acres, hundreds of miles of trails, hundreds of lakes, and thousands of miles of river, including the Yuba, American, and Rubicon rivers, along with more than 100 developed campgrounds, and plenty of backcountry camping options, between the two parks. Head further east for Lake Tahoe and scenic lakeside camping options.
Sacramento and Jackson Area
Near Sacramento, several campgrounds can be found in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area around Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma, or further south near the Sacramento River at Sandy Beach Regional Park and Brannan Island State Recreation Area. Further south near Jackson, find additional water sports and camping options around Lake Amador, Camanche Lake, and New Hogan Lake.
When to go
Summer is the most popular time for outdoor adventures and camping around Auburn, especially at the area lakes and rivers when temperatures are high and the heat is dry. Many competitions are held from spring to fall, with the peak over the summer. The fishing season runs from April to November. Visit in spring for wildflower displays and fall for colorful foliage. Winter snow and weather can affect access and availability of winter recreation activities.
