Juniper Springs Recreation Area and Campground

78 sites · RV, Tent

Juniper Springs Recreation Area has been enchanting nature lovers with its limestone-filtered spring waters and subtropical forest setting since the 1930s, when the Civilian Conservation Corps built out the park’s campground and swimming area, Mill House.

Plunging into the green-and-turquoise spring-fed pool is a must when visiting. The Juniper Springs Recreation Area Campground, which features 79 tent and RV sites shaded by live oaks and palm trees, is within walking distance of the pool. Campsites have picnic tables and fire pits, as well as access to flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. A concessionaire sells snacks and camping supplies near the pools, or you can resupply in Ocala just 35 minutes away.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • All Juniper Springs campsites are reservable six months in advance.
  • Camping reservations can be made online or by calling (877) 444-6777.
  • The Juniper Springs Recreation Area Campground is one of the most popular campgrounds in Ocala National Forest. Weekends frequently book out, so make your reservations as early as possible.
  • When to Go

Due to its Central Florida location and subtropical climate, Juniper Springs camping is excellent in the fall, winter, and spring. Summers are also beautiful, but tent campers beware that summers bring high temperatures in the 90s, humidity, and the potential for thunderstorms and rain showers. Some park services and concessions are seasonal. For current information on park services, contact Adventure Ocala, the park service operator, at (352) 625-3147.

Your guide to camping in Juniper Springs Recreation Area and Campground

    Overview

    Hiking

Florida's state thru-trail, the Florida Trail, passes through Juniper Springs with a trailhead close to the campground. You can also use this section of the Florida Trail to explore the adjacent Juniper Prairie Wilderness. For a shorter hike, the park’s Juniper Springs Nature Trail follows a boardwalk and footpath to the Fern Hammock Spring.

    Paddling

You can kayak or canoe the 7-mile-long Juniper Run from here, as rentals and return shuttles are available from an on-site concessionaire. If bringing your own boat, note that there’s a private launch limit of 30 vessels per day, so arrive early. Inflatables are prohibited.

    Swimming

The natural spring water that feeds into the Juniper Springs pool stays a comfortable 72°F year-round. The pool has both a shallow end and a deep end where jumping is permitted.

    Wildlife watching

The Juniper Springs Nature Trail and Fern Hammock Springs are great places to spot alligators and river otters. On land, don’t be surprised if you see turkeys, deer, albino gray squirrels, or black bears in this area.
