This land has been a community gathering space for the Native's Ceremony and Healing Space for over a thousand years. Feast your eyes upon the Matates and traces of the people that once gathered here so long ago.
Upon the mid 1800's we had a Settler named Nate Harrison find this to be the ideal space, and he set up homestead here, and lived an amazing full life. He was to become the first African American to aquire land here in San Diego County, and his homestead remains to this day; studied by archaeology students to this day.
Sensitive habitat and magic lies within our gates, and we must approach the mountain as we would any sacred space; with RESPECT.
We welcome you to enjoy Nate's land and inspire who you are deep inside your heart.
We live in Oceanside and this is super close and easy for us to get to. The place is a neat mountain top location with forever views. The road is a tight twisty road taking you up, but any normal car can make it. I wouldn't drag a trailer or an RV over 24' personally. But for a quick easy star session or a chance to get the dog and kids in the dirt, it is great. They have fire rings and wood, although in summer months this may be limited due to fire risk. But here in April it was good. It got into the high 50's and we were very comfortable with 70's during the day. There is water available, for washing and drinking I think, but I didn't drink. It has a horse camp feel and is spread out enough that you have space, but it isn't private as people will pass by on walks etc. It is dog friendly and we were able to keep our off leash 95% of the time. There is a few other local dogs and a cute pig that visit, but all are friendly.
of the most beautiful places to camp, the Personal, a wonder, we had a great unforgettable experience, the woman who attended us gave us even home sauce and solved until after hours what we needed, we left very grateful 🙏🏼
I had a perfectly lovely weekend here!
Communication with the host was easy and there were no surprises.
Like some other reviews say, the road up is a bumpy one, so it's highly recommended to come in a vehicle that can handle it.
There were a few options for tent camping and we chose one where we wouldn't have neighbors. That said, there are building structures around, so it doesn't exactly feel remote. But as a tradeoff, you get a pretty decent bathroom with lights and hot showers -- which would be especially nice if you are or are bringing inexperienced campers.
I'm not much of a dog person, but the resident dog was super chill and didn't bark once, and the 3 roaming piggies were entertaing as they roamed about.
The views were especially nice. The sites are quite large and include a fire pit and picnic table. Overall, a great little getaway, especially with not being able to find options for campsites open within the state park. 😊
