Outside of Morgan Hill, Coe Ranch Campground has both RV and tent camping.

All sites include a fire ring, picnic table, vault toilets, and access to piped water. Campsite scenery ranges from cozy spots under shady oaks to steps away from a panoramic view. If your site doesn't have a tree, shared ramadas are provided.

If you are more into the tent-only scene, go for sites 5, 6,7, 10,11 and 12. There are also 82 hike-in, bike-in campsites, which can be accessed as long as you have a backcountry permit. (Get one from the visitor center.)

As always, be prepared with your own supplies, especially water, as there are no drinking facilities. Keep in mind that things can get pretty windy and most of the sites are sloped downhill, so make sure those lids are on tight!

Stayed at #17, which is right next to the employee housing. Just FYI. It's the only site next to a building. But otherwise very quiet campground. Rained in the morning. Would come here again but try for sites 4,5,6 or 7 and bring bug spray!

This may have changed, but you have to hike down to the water area from some of the campsites. Don't run down the hill, walk or your knees will suffer the next day.

We stayed at site 6. As another reviewer said, close to sites 5 and 7, but the they are father away from the parking spots, so no road noise. That also means it's a bit of a trek from car to site but worth it in my opinion.

Another thing to add--when putting it in google maps make sure to enter Coe Ranch Campground, not Henry Coe State Park. If you get directions to the state park it will take you to the completely wrong place and you will get very lost... :P

Nice smaller sized campground only 20-30 min from the 101 freeway, would recommend to friends. We stayed at campsite 13 which was by far the most private campground we saw, and had a great time. Some of the other campsites looked very cozy and open, get one on the eastern outside of the loop if you want to have some shade.

Hip Camp says that campsite 5-7 are secluded-- but only if you have all 3 sites. They're very close to each other with no privacy but a spectacular view. Go with sites 10-12 if you want privacy. Better yet: pay the extra $$ to book a Manzanita Group Camp.

Your guide to camping in Coe Ranch Campground

Overview

Biking

As we’ve said, there are over 86,000 acres of all natural goodness Henry W. Coe State Park, of which 290 miles of trails and roads are open to mountain bikes (many of it single-track). That my friends, is the most in any State Park in California! It is a massive space and one that must be respected as well. The riding is not easy and it is usually very hot, so just be prepared. There are many trails to choose from and starting here is a good resource. For a more specific map of the trails, look here.

Boating

Motorized boating isn’t really a thing in this park, but that doesn’t mean you can’t explore the waters! Check out the kayaking and canoeing section for more info!

Fishing

Fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and green sunfish is excellent, though none of the park's lakes, streams or ponds can be reached by vehicle. Round-trip hikes can be 10 miles or more. All you anglers out there, make sure to check out this great resource with more detailed info on the fishing in the park.

Hiking

With over 80,000 acres and hundreds of miles of trails in this park, there is plenty of hiking to do! The casual visitors will enjoy exploring the canyons, valleys and massive trail system as much as an experienced backpacker. There are four main hikes which are considered to be the best hikes in the park. If you’d like to take a dip after a long haul, make sure to check out China Hole (although the temperature is most definitely “refreshing”).

Horseback riding

The backcountry provides serene, peaceful rides and beautiful views. Longer trips or horse camping involve rugged and steep terrain.Call Henry W. Coe SP offices for more equestrian information.

Swimming

Henry W. Coe park is a great place if you’re seeking a hiking or backpacking trip ending in a refreshing dip. Creeks throughout the park make for awesome swimming holes .

Wildlife watching

The scenic hills of Henry Coe are home to a great number of animals. Wildlife found in this park includes deer, elk, raptors, eagles, mountain lions, rabbits, bobcats and more.
