My GF and I have stayed at site 125 and 116. Site 125 has HUGE redwoods that are incredible to wake up to, but it's not very secluded. Site 116 is very secluded and surrounded by beautiful redwoods, this spot is INCREDIBLE; however, it's very hard to reserve because it's always booked! Either way - this place is fantastic!

This was my first time coming to Big Basin. It was fun. We were lucky and booked a campsite for the 4th of July weekend one week prior! They held a talent show for the kids. Although, I had such low expectations for our campsite, since it was right at the entrance of the campgrounds and right next to the road. BUT!! It happened to be the best one. There was almost like a secret nook above our campsite, where we set up our tent. It does connect to a grove and trail towards HQ but no one came by. I highly recommend campsite 104B. You do hear the cars drive by in the day but in the evenings it's dead quiet and super secluded.

Big Basin is stunning! I stayed in site 105 right by the entrance. I didn't mind the cars occasionally passing by but if you want peace and quiet you may want to pick sites closer to the creek. The only thing I didn't like about 105 is the driveway has a gutter and it scraped the bottom of my car so park on the side if you can or if you're in an SUV, you'll be fine. Besides that, I had an amazing experience and can't wait to go back!

April 2016 Beautiful and well maintained camp - I stayed in the Sempervirens Loop, which was a little more private and quiet than the main camps, where there were a lot of families, etc. There are loads of great hikes to take, for all persuasions, from very easy short loops to long, challenging hikes. Camp centre is well equipped: firewood for sale, a well stocked gift shop and small grocery/cafe with espresso, snacks and a small museum attached. Showers are a quarter for two minutes, but beware - they aren't very warm! This is a great place to stay a few nights, hike and check out the redwoods and the abundant wildlife. It's a beautiful place. Boulder Creek down the road is a very quaint mountain town, and worth a look as well.

Also stayed in 122B - it was incredible! So much room to spread out amongst the trees, a good distance from neighbors, and backs up to the creek. The campground itself is pretty magical, nestled amongst the redwoods, plus several bathrooms and showers available.

Virtually every campsite is wooded and shady, so you're sure to be comfortable in nearly all of them. Campsites 113, 114, 122, 123, 127-129, 146, 156, 155 are all pretty private. Lots of great <1.5mi for small kids. Great Jr. Ranger program at 3pm each day.

Site 122 is one of the best! Right next to the water but super well set up and private!!

Your guide to camping in Blooms Creek Campground

Overview

Biking

Mountain bikes aren’t allowed on the single track lanes, however there are still some great rides. They are excellent for beginners because most of the riding is on fire roads, of which a large portion is paved. It’s not for dirt devils, but the remoteness of the area still makes it a special ride.

Hiking

So you want to hike through some of the oldest gigantic Redwoods in the state AND frolick around a waterfall? Well, that’s a little greedy, but why the heck not? This is Big Basin after-all and all your dreams can come true (if you dream about these things...I know that we do!). There’s over 18,000 acres to explore, so you can hike all that your heart desires. However, there is a lot, so make sure you check out some of the best hikes in Big Basin Redwoods.

Horseback riding

Horses are allowed in Rancho Del Oso and there is a horse camp! Make sure to check out the information for horse camping before going.

Wind sports

Waddell Beach, located across Highway 1 from the park entrance, is known worldwide as one of THE spots for windsurfing and kiteboarding. The steady, strong North-West winds and good surf provide ideal conditions for this demanding sport. With the strong winds and occasionally heavy surf, Waddell Beach is not recommended for novice windsurfers. Make sure you check wind conditions before you go and have an epic time. Just keep in mind that the beach is about a 50 minute drive away from the campgrounds, so plan accordningly.

Surfing

Waddell Creek is known as one of the great kiteboarding and windsurfing spots, but it also provides some excellent surf (on the right day). Make sure to see if the conditions are right before you head out. For a detailed “surf map,” check in with our friends at Surfline.

Wildlife watching

Big Basin is teeming with wildlife (this is a good thing). Sliding along a mossy piece of fallen tree you’ll find banana slugs, while foxes dart through the nooks and crannies of the lush forest. This forest is very much alive and you will see this in almost every step you take!
