Arcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality.
It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us. Not to confuse.)
We have a mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, Witch Hazels leaning over the water, trout, crayfish, snakes, salamanders, and all the rest. We have about 2000 feet of the vertical mountainside with trails to explore. (But the stage and most of the camping is down closer to creek-level.)
There are more sites higher up the mountain if you like more isolated camping.
More of a trek to the bathrooms/showers/freshwater.
We have one of the finest private stages on the East Coast with a top-notch sound system and a natural amphitheater which is like a single pie wedge of a Stadium that has regular live performances throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience.
There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming.
Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home.
There are two bridges that cross Thrashers Creek to get to Arcadia. The first is not suitable for large vehicles and trailers. The second bridge is our recommended entry way. Be aware we live on side of Mount pleasant and the roads on site are graveled and somewhat windy.
The campsite is cherished for its serene and picturesque setting, with plenty of space and access to clean facilities. Many guests highlight the warm hospitality of the host, Fran, who often goes above and beyond to enhance the experience with fresh homemade breakfast items like bread and eggs. The presence of friendly animals and opportunities for nature exploration, including star gazing and hiking, add to the tranquil charm. However, a few guests mentioned the photos may be slightly misleading in terms of size perception, though the overall experience remains positive.
This was the most lovely stay! I can’t recommend the yurt at Arcadia enough! The setting is so beautiful and tranquil. The yurt is so charming and comfortable! Fran baked fresh bread and brought it to us! 10/10 ⭐️
Excellent place to stay the host Fran is very accommodating for our group. Restrooms/Showers are available and very clean. Camp sites are spacious with wonderful views. We brought our pups and had a wonderful time exploring the grounds and spending time down by the creek. Fire wood is sold on site, they offer clean water as well. From the cats, guinea hens, ducks and their sweet guard dog, it feels like home.
Staying on Fran's land was wonderful! The amenities were beyond what I had expected, and Fran was super kind checking me in. The property is expansive and goes pretty high up into the hills if you feel like exploring! There's also all kinds of critters roaming around, I got to meet Fran's two dogs and three of the cats (there were more I didn't see)
I was able to get to the lower sites no problem in my little Honda Civic.
Will absolutely plan to stay again with a couple folks at the lower sites.
We really enjoyed the property and Fran and her family were great hosts. We will definitely visit again.
Thanks Fran.
