It might be very windy....
We tent camped at North Rim Campground on Friday, October 25th, 2019. (High: 72F, Low 35F). We reserved one of the last remaining sites online about 4 days before arriving.
Even though the campground was nearly fully booked online, the reality was that less than half of the sites were actually occupied which was a bummer to see. With that being said, if you're desperate and find yourself in the area in late October, you can always check in with a ranger to see if any sites have been released due to multiple night booking no-shows. (I'm not aware if there is a system in place for this, perhaps someone else can ask a ranger and update us here!)
The camp features flush toilets and running water. Each site has a a picnic table and fire pit.
Gets cold during spring nights
7,000 ft. elevation always be ready for cool weather....
I actually camped at Havasupai Campground but it was not listed on the site. You need to commit early and get permits because it is very popular but worth it! It is a 10 mile hike in from the rim.
We came here during spring break so it was still a little cool at night, like 35 degrees and during the day it was around 60. Perfect if you have warm gear and like hiking without sweating! The grounds were quiet and not too crowded with plenty of space in between each site. A short hike and your on the rim! Would definitely come back during this time again. Love the GC.
Be sure to reserve in advance!
pay more for the premium sites if you can get one. They are right on the rim, and have the best views. The tent sites are off to the side, and don't have much in the way of views, but are conveniently located to a great view
Always bring more water than you think. We are prepared for 120 degree weather at all times, especially when you hike down in the canyon, always bring at least two liters of water.
North rim is always much more quiet than the south rim ( in personal opinion) We go once a year and haven't been disappointed!
There is always so much to do so make sure you give yourself at least three full days.
