Little Woodland Paradise

8 sites · RVs, Tents3 acres · Wetumpka, AL
Come stay at our charming little woodland paradise. We are located on 2.55 acres, in the country and live on-site, so if you need anything, please let us know. There are security cameras located throughout the property. The gazebo, down the hill from the house, offers a wonderful place to eat, read, drink coffee or play games. We have many games on hand for you to play that are sure to keep you laughing. The rock firepit is large and is perfect for those chilly nights. Firewood available for sale for $5 a bundle. We also have a small smokeless pit up by the gazebo. Please make sure all fires are put out and all tiki torches are extinguished before going to sleep. We do own chickens and have a cute chicken coop down the hill. They're relatively quiet, but you may hear them, during the day, as they're laying. We also have one dog, but she is in the white fenced in area and is very friendly. There are flower beds, flowering trees, bushes and wildflowers scattered among the property. If you come at the right time of year, you'll see all the beautiful blooms. We also have wild blackberries, blueberry bushes and scuppernong vines. Feel free to forage on those while you're with us. There is a lot of wildlife you could potentially see while staying here such as squirrels, chipmunks, beautiful birds of all kinds, lots of butterflies, owls, red tailed hawks, armadillos, racoons and even foxes. After a heavy rain, you will hear our small creek trickling. We have unlimited tent camping sites, with access to a water hose only. They are located down the hill, to the back of our property. Our one back in rv pad has 30 amp electric and water hookups and is located next to the house. 30 foot maximum length rig. We also have one boondocking gravel pad available, with no hookups, that is located across the driveway from our house. Quiet hours are from 10pm until 6am. Absolutely no discharging of firearms allowed at any time. Alcohol is permitted, for those 21 and older, as long as the noise level and behavior don't become a nuisance. There will be no tolerance for use of illegal drugs. Dogs are allowed as long as they aren't aggressive and not allowed to roam outside of our property. Please be sure to clean up after them. Our cute, quaint little town of Wetumpka is only 5 miles down the road. It was featured on HGTV's Hometown Takeover in 2021, was featured in the movie Big Fish and is a picture perfect town, with many locally owned shops and restaurants. It's located right on the Coosa River, where you can kayak in the summer, launch your boat or fish year round. There's also a fantastic park with a nice walking trail that goes along the river. Stop in at Coosa River Craft House or Coosa Cleaver for refreshing adult beverages and live music. Look for the Big Fish house. It's the big white house on the hill. We are 10 minutes from Lake Jordan and 30 from Lake Martin. Fort Toulouse National Historic Park is 15 minutes away. There you can tour over 6,000 years of history. You can tour the French and American Forts or the Mississippian Indian Mound site, or just relax and take a walk along the trails. Just ten minutes north of us is Swayback Bridge. There are five loop trials available, ranging from 1 miles to 11.2 miles. You can hike or bike them. The bridge is 290 feet long and does over Lake Jordan. Weaving Woods Farm

2 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Bowdon, GA
The property features a 1 1/2 acre pond stocked with catfish and bream and has a nice little dock with a table and chairs to sit and enjoy the water. There are animals! I have a beloved Scottish Highland cow named Genia and she is joined with two mini bulls and two mini cows. Various numbers of Nigerian Dwarf goats join them in the pasture. There are also a few chickens. Small garden beds and a fruit orchard are on the property and I usually have at least a half dozen projects of one sort or another going on. Several acres are wooded and there is ample space for a nature trail that I try to keep maintained. Several of the usual types wildlife can be seen. Are you an artist or a writer? This is a great place for comtemplation and inspiration. I myself have 40 years experience as an art teacher and professor. If you would like to have a mini workshop, let me help. Water is available not far from the campsites. There is also a portable pop up potty/shower tent (with bucket and seat) available.

Sowing Seeds of Peace

3 sites · Lodging, Tents20 acres · Roopville, GA
It is 20.54 acres peacefully located between big land owners on each side, and a creek that runs through the middle that separates north from south pieces. Our trails are groomed and some just deer worn. We have one camp site that is rural and rustic. There is a bucket for the restroom and antique, old white kitchen sink for hand washing just outside it. There is no running water yet, but working on getting a water reservoir out there asap. No electricity yet a single power cord could be run for extra $10.00 for your visit. There is a fire pit close to the tent spot on, “Skip’s Campsite”. Another camp site” Aqua-Fine-A” that has a walk in creek access, and you have to cross the creek to get to that one. It is farther away from “Skip’s bathroom access. It has a more established flag stone fire pit. It is our original primitive sight. There is no water reservoir or possibility of electricity at “Aqua-Fine-A” campsite. Everything must be packed in and out on foot. Both sights require a hike to campsites on foot with uneven rooted trails. {You are welcome to use our well loved red wheelbarrow to haul items in}. There is access to a bigger fire pit “M & M fire pit”, and a propane grill option (this is first come first serve/sharing spot). More campsites developing over time and there is a massage practitioner on site if you are looking for the whole experience (29 years experience in healing modalities and shamanic blood line). If you are looking to experience nature cabin style then, “The Minor Escape” is for you. This has a full refrigerator, full stand up filtered water shower, kitchen sink, separate master, two bedroom lofts with ladder access, kitchen sink, ceiling fans, window a/c units for summer and space heaters for winter (Eden pure heater that shows fireplace flames). Our family loves this land and there is always new areas being cultivated in various spots. You will see us out there either with our hobby farm of animals, gardening or building a new area. I am a teacher, guide, artist, and healer. This land is sacred and magical. It is used to heal, restore, inspire and rejuvenate many locally and internationally.

The best camping near Horseshoe Bend National Military Park guide

Overview

About

Yoda said, "Wars make not one great." Yet that's what happened to Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in Alabama. His 3,300 men attacked 1,000 members of the Red Stick Creek tribe, led by Chief Menawa. The battle ended the Creek Wars and made Jackson a national hero.

Unfortunately, 800 Red Stick warriors died during the battle. It was March 27, 1814. Jackson, also a hero of the War of 1812, would go on to be president. (He's the guy on the $20 bill.) The end of the Creek Wars meant 23 million acres became United States territory.

The battlefield itself features an open field surrounded by trees. The name comes from a horseshoe-like bend in the Tallapoosa River.

A visitor center tells you everything you need to know about the battle. You find out what led to the Creek Wars and some history of the Creek tribe. There's also a section on the War of 1812.

The battlefield holds special events twice a year. In March there's a living history event that depicts both sides of the conflict. This occurs in conjunction with the anniversary of the battle. You can tour authentic Creek, Cherokee, and U.S. military camps from the time period. Five months later in August there are living history demonstrations and guest speakers.

A 2.8-mile nature trail takes you through wooded areas and by the river. During the summer months, this jaunt offers shade from the hot summer sun. A 3-mile paved road lets you enjoy the scenery from your car.

Nearby campsites let you experience a bit of what Jackson's men and the Creek warriors went through.
