Lucky Penny Laytonville is a thriving multi-generational family home and campground, dedicated to music, art, gardening, cooking, and family fun. Just 6 sites on 4 acres!
Camping made easy with a FULLY OUTFITTED OPEN AIR OUTDOOR KITCHEN and HOT SHOWERS (not available in the coldest times of the year when pipes freeze). Kitchen includes sinks, refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, blender, espresso machine, coffee grinder and maker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, knives, cutting boards, etc. If there's something you need and can't find it, we'll bring it out from our kitchen in the house. All you bring for meals is the food!
CHECK WITH HOSTS about whether FIRES are currently allowed. Fire MUST be completely extinguished before you go to sleep at night. Firewood available for purchase. SMOKERS, please be super careful!
Outlets to CHARGE YOUR PHONE and DEVICES. Our Wifi only works at the front of the property near the house, but there are several places in town one mile away with great Wifi.
Fruit trees and gardens dot the property. Feel free to pick a piece of fruit. We almost always have organic fresh eggs from the chickens, so just ask.
We're in a wooded country neighborhood where lots of folks have dogs, so you might hear some barking and see some neighbors. Very occasionally we see a dog off leash. We ask that you keep your dogs on leash at all times, as we have cats and chickens.
We encourage you to enjoy the forest, but do be aware that there is poison oak. If you don't know what it looks like we can show you.
Please arrive between Noon - 8pm. Text us your estimated arrival time and then when you're 15 minutes out, let us know you're getting close. You can prearranged for a late arrival in "Extras." We are flexible about check out time, if we don't have other campers arriving at your site, you can stay as long as you like. Just ask.
If your plans change, just let us know at least 24 hours before check-in and you'll get a full refund.
We had a great time at Hillary's spot! She came out to greet us right away and showed us the ropes. It was a chilly winter night so we were the only ones there and had the place to ourselves. She was kind enough to bring out the cooking equipment and make sure the setup worked for our short one-night stay. Her outdoor kitchen setup is so cute! We loved petting the kitties and enjoying wine and cheese by candlelight at the outdoor table.
We had a wonderful experience at Lucky Penny. Hillary and AJ were wonderful hosts. The kitchen and all of the common spaces were awesome and our fellow travelers were all so friendly. We will definitely be going back!
We were so happy to be able to camp here again. The outdoor kitchen and hot showers really make camping a more enjoyable. We didn’t have to pack half of our camping gear because the kitchen has everything you need except your food.
Our children loved playing with the toys in the shed, looking for eggs laid by the chickens, playing with kittens, and picking blackberries. We also enjoyed watching shooting stars on the stage and seeing the dear wander through.
The compostable toilets are regularly serviced so they don’t smell.
The host are very pleasant and have wonderful recommendations for local spots to swim or have a delicious meal.
What a magical spot! This was very accessible from the highway and yet felt perfectly tucked away and remote. We stayed in "Under the Madrone" campsite had the whole space to purselves in a beautifully shaded forest area. The outdoor kitchen and showers were abouy a 5 min walk and made for a glamping like experience with everything we needed for some amazing meals. This is a family friendly campsite and only 25 min from amazing swimming holes and about a hour from Avenue of the Giants. Perfect weekend getaway. Hilary was super welcoming and helpful.
What a magical little camp in the woods. Loved the big Doug firs in my camp site, the outdoor shower was a joy, the kitchen was fully stocked and the company was fun. Definately will recommend to friends.
Our family had a lovely time camping here. Hillary was an excellent communicator and a great host! It’s so quaint and charming and makes you feel like you have stumbled upon something magical. Please do yourself a favor and plan to shower in the outdoor shower and cook in the outdoor kitchen, both wonderful experiences. Our kids loved the Shed of Everthing—what a fun idea.
We would recommend staying here.
