The amount and variety of wildlife is astonishing, with bear, deer, turkeys, fox, coyote, bobcat, Eagles, River otter, salmon and steelhead, with a wide variety of songbirds during migration.
Easy access from road, close to town, tall oak trees, privacy, creek with salmon within a five minute walk, mountains, wildlife, barn owl nest box. Please note that during late summer, creek does not flow on surface but always has swimming holes where the salmon and steelhead wait for Fall rains to carry them down to the Eel river and eventually to the ocean, until they return as adults to spawn again.
Guests love staying here: "Elderberry camp was really great! It was a large site, plenty of space, shade, and parking. Very peaceful and good distance between other sites although we were pretty much the only campers out there. Outhouse was clean and there was drinking water. We spent most of our Saturday in Eel River which was great. The water was perfect for swimming and fishing, our husbands caught some big ones. Stephen was very nice and accommodating, the honey and eggs we asked for were a nice addition too!"

Stephen's campsite offers a peaceful escape with plenty of space to spread out, making it a solid choice for those seeking a quiet getaway. While many campers appreciate the tranquil setting and clear night skies, some have noted the creek can be bone dry, affecting the fishing and swimming experiences. There are mixed feelings about proximity to the road and occasional noise, but the site's convenience and natural surroundings remain a draw. The campsite also provides essential amenities like drinking water and a composting toilet, though the need for better maintenance and communication on certain issues is mentioned.
Another great tent camping trip here. So nice to have the drinking water and composting toilet. The site was spotless again. Eel River was great this time of year. Tomki Creek was nearly dry but we found a few shallow water holes with fish, tadpoles and frogs. Elderberry definitely gets some sun but also some nice shade - manageable. For being close to road there was very little traffic.

The camp spot was good and minimal. We stayed in shady oak. The noise does carry a lot between the shady spot and neighboring camp on other side of bathroom. Wasn't a fan of proximity to road, it was rather busy and a few loud drivers intentionally honking when they past and it was late at night which was inconsiderate, it was labor day weekend though so I imagine they were young having fun that night being rambunctious. Bathroom is bottom open outhouse that did start smelling on day 2 with the heat... My 2 year old and black lab had fun. Would go back as a backup option.
