LO TAHOMA LO: Used to call attention or to express wonder or surprise. TAHOMA: Mt. Rainier or 'Tahoma' as it was named by Indigenous People of the Pacific Northwest. Lo Tahoma is an 18 acre homestead of diverse land including 15 forested acres, we're located 5 miles from the NW Carbon River entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 20 miles away from the Mowich Lake entrance. The glacier fed Carbon River is a 1/4 mile walk/drive from our driveway with easy access to the Foothills Rails-to-Trails (a relatively easy walking, dirt trail which parallels the Carbon River). We mill our own lumber from trees off our property using a portable sawmill which provides us with the wood we need for most of our construction and repair projects. We like to share self-sustainable knowledge and skills that we have found very useful on our homestead by offering small, hands-on, intimate classes. Individual or small Group Campsite encircled in an old growth Cedar Grove.  The Carbon River entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park gives you the option of walking or bicycling in (*e-bikes included) . This entrance is open year round, and although not paved, the 12' wide path is inviting and easy for individuals & families to walk or bike. Trailheads to Chenuis Falls, Green Lake, and the iconic Carbon Glacier all stem from this 5 mile access road. We're 20 miles from Mowich Lake (*OPEN ONLY mid July - 2nd week in October*) giving you seasonal access to a plethora of hiking trails including Spray Park and the very popular Tolmie Peak/Eunice Lake trail. Ours is a secluded/private site with easy access, perfect to set up as your base camp for hiking, biking and exploring the Carbon Canyon.  There is NO cell service or WiFi connection @ Lo Tahoma, unplug and enjoy! Lo Tahoma is only a 1/4 mile walk away to the Carbon River, a glacier-fed river that runs year-round.  Bring folding lawn chairs and sit a spell along the river's edge on a hot summer day. The north side of the Carbon River is lined with an extensive trail system (an unpaved section of the Foothills Rails to Trails) which parallels the river while winding through lush forest, mostly shaded, the temperature can be 10 degrees cooler here on a hot day. Our site features a clean gravel trail that forks in two directions leading you towards the Campsite and a timber frame Privy.  Parking is close by, with easy access from the driveway. Campsite can accommodate up to 2 medium & 1 small tent , includes one 10' x 10' raised tent pad with tarp covering overhead.  We provide a kindling kit and 1 large crate (12+ pieces) of dry hand-chopped firewood with each booking, additional firewood crates are available for $10 each. A covered sink station with hand pump is close by, providing fresh, non-potable well water. An Oasis
What a little oasis this Hipcamp is! The hosts have made it extra special - it has its own trails! - and you only hear the sounds of owls, elk, and horses. It was simply lovely, and appreciated.

Cedar Grove @ Lo Tahoma
Best Hipcamp spot to date! Perfect blend of rustic tent camping experience with amenities that were just - chef’s kiss. We loved the covered area for our tent, the critter proof box to store food, line to dry our towels & swimsuits, side table to prep our food, fire pit with a rotating grill, picnic table with an umbrella, dish washing station with an awesome water pump, & the cute bathroom! 10/10. They even provided a crate of fire wood + kindling to get you started. You have the option to add more wood, if you wanted. It was plenty enough to cook our food for 2 nights & have a proper fire to relax at during the evening. Everything was spaced apart so intentionally & at about the right distance to keep animals away from your sleeping area. Jill & Kent really hit it out of the ballpark with this very private camping site. We could hear the neighbors only every so often, they were drowned out by the owls hooting at night, the frogs croaking, the birds singing, & the elks bugling. Perfect place as base camp while we explored the NW corner of MRNP.

This site set the bar for Hip Camp
The site is impecable, well-thought out, and has every amenity you could need, rain or shine. The hosts thought of everything and everything there is really well made. We got a huge kick out of the guidebook they provide at the site. The hiking on property and down by the river at the bridge nearby was seriously better than NPS hikes at Carbon River station and Olympics Hoh Rainforest.

Camping in the rain at LoTohoma
Camp Lo Tohoma was a very well outfitted and laid out campsite. We arrived in the pouring rain but were still able to make the best of space (with the help of our canopy). In better weather one could arrive here with little more than a sleeping bag, food, mess kit, and water and be fine. I never had an opportunity to meet the hosts but from the immaculate condition of the site I have to imagine they are conscientious and thoughtful people. The Carbonado area is gorgeous and the proximity to the NW entrance to the park makes this site a great base camp for further exploration.
