We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy.
Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided).
The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ in the outdoor room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery.
Extra guests welcome in tents, swags or vans adjacent to the cottage. To ensure only one group of campers at a time, THE COTTAGE HAS TO BE BOOKED FIRST, then book the extra campers through the additional campsites listing.

Campfires welcome when not in fireban season. You can order a wheelbarrow load for $30, or bring your own. Dogs are permitted, but please understand, we are a sheep stud and need to ensure no disturbance from dogs. Please advise if you intend to bring your dog.
I've had a great experience at Eckert’s Old Place.
Upon arrival, it felt like time travel to the past and the Cabin was the cherry on top. Chris and Phill are great hosts and have done an amazing job preserving history and retelling the story of that place with such pleasant details, it left me truly impressed.
Beautiful sunrise and spectacular night sky just to make the entire experience even better.
I couldn't recommend more.
This camp was a real charm, a beautifully restored to original farm cottage and a handy camp kitchen in the middle of a working sheep farm. We chose to camp out and watch the stars go overhead and enjoy the clear skies.
Great location between the Barossa and Clare valley. Ideal for a big group to gather around the outdoor fire pit
I love eckerts old place, was a space to relax and unwind away from the stresses of day to day life. The place itself is a gem and just breathes history with each new look. Wpuld recomend to anyone trying to get off grid for a few days.
We had great shelter from a wild thunderstorm during our stay. The little cottage kept us warm and dry, and we enjoyed the experience on our way through the area. Beats a boring Motel any day. Give it a go
Magical full moon night. Peaceful and beautiful.
Not for the ones unable to live simply and love their mondain comfort. There’s what you need without fuss.
Tho I haven’t used the shower, I’m not aware if it’s in working order.. but the place is gorgeous and you can feel the history. It’s printed everywhere and hard to ignore. I loved my stay.
Thank you to my hosts.
