Kanukadale Forest River Retreat

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents20 acres · Goongerah, VIC
We have 20 acres of lush river flats adjoining the pristine Brodribb River in the Goongerah Valley. Due to the pristine, clean water straight off the surrounding mountains and the rich fertile river flats, early settlers used this place as a market garden to supply fruit and vegetables to the local townsfolk. After our purchase in 2000, we turned it into a self-sufficient paradise, always welcoming visitors to come and enjoy the land with us. Our BYO campsites are near the river where you can reconnect with nature amongst the tall trees. Kanukadale is a working Nature Retreat Sanctuary, so additional to BYO campsites, we also offer our Bell Tents when the retreats are not running. Here at Kanukadale, you will share the space with very friendly horses, ponies, miniature goats and our donkey. The property is child friendly as the boundary, river and paddocks are well fenced. You can do as much or as little as you want during your stay. Be sure to check out our awesome animal focussed activities that we offer here. You can find them under Experiences. You are welcome to bring your own horses and dogs. Dogs must stay on a lead whilst on the property and responsible pet ownership is essential here, as is a respectful attitude towards all the other sentient beings on the property. We do not allow generators here. There is lots to do in the area with heaps of nature immersion. East Gippsland is one of the most bio-diverse areas on mainland Australia. You can explore rare, Old Growth forest, historic gold mines, climb to the peak of Mt Ellery and walk through the Errinundra Plateau. Mountain bike riding, horseriding, 4wd touring and bushwalking is awesome in this area. There is a camp kitchen with a communal fridge, microwave, stove and electricity. There is also a composting toilet and hot shower facilities. There is free wifi. THERE ARE NO SHOPS OR FUEL OR MOBILE RECEPTION. WIFI CALLING WORKS IF YOU HAVE THAT OPTION. THE CLOSEST TOWN IS 50 KM TO DELEGATE OR 70KM TO ORBOST. YOU NEED TO COME COMPLETELY PREPARED OR IT’S A LONG DRIVE TO TOWN. THERE IS A PUBLIC PHONE BOX UP THE ROAD.

Bell Tent in Forest Near River

1 site · Lodging2 acres · Reefton, VIC
Escape to nature where trees and rivers take away your stress. Sleep on 3 single pallet beds in a cute bell tent amongst soaring tall trees and set your mind, body and spirit free. Imagine waking to birdsong and the gentle sound of the burbling brook at the edge of these glorious two acres of tall tree open forest. Boil yourself a billy on the communal fire or byo gas bbq and sip tea in bed or gaze at the birds, trees or river and breathe in the serenity. You are away from everything here. This is camping at its best: quiet, away from it all, yet plenty to do if you want to. There are camp toilets, a washing up area and a small communal fridge. An open air shower is available (a hot bath in an outdoor claw foot bath $10 cash) or invigorate yourself with a bathe in the shallow crystal clear clean river. Rainwater tank water is available. You just bring bedding. Sleep in or read under the trees, splash in the creek or explore the incredible beauty of the surrounding area. The property adjoins state forest and is protected in a private little valley. Onsite massages, Reiki, Meditation and Deep Relaxation sessions are on offer and one day and half day tours of the local area will surprise and delight. On early morning walks, you might spy the elusive native platypus or fish for a trout. Toboggans are available for hire to enjoy the nearby snow in winter. There are a range of local walking trails, bike trails and activities for the whole family or have a romantic picnic with your beloved/s in nature. Located only 1.5 hours from Melbourne, there is good Telstra phone range. It is only 10 mins from the historic Reefton Pub with its delicious country meals, live music and famous Thurs eve trivia nights or just 20 mins away are the quirky Warburton's cafes and sublime arts scene. There's history, water parks, wineries, Healesville Sanctuary, the Ada Tree (Victoria's tallest tree) and the famous Redwood Forest is only 10 mins drive. Some info so you know the set up: - You must arrive in daylight. It is not safe to try and park in the dark and find your way. If you arrive after dark you will need to park on the street until morning. - There is a short walk from your car to the campsite area. - There is a short steep downhill with steps from the campsites to the creek. - My partner and I live on the property in a small cottage. We love camping visitors staying and we love privacy and peace as much as you do. - A cat, rabbit and chooks live there too. If your kids want to hold the chooks or collect eggs for your breakfast we can arrange that. - All dogs & cats must be on a leash at all times and if it barks or a nuisance you will have to leave. - There are dogs in neighbouring properties who sometimes bark. - We are close to the gloriously beautiful Warburton-Marysville-Healesville scenic drive so occasionally there may be sounds of traffic. - Toilets are basic camping toilets in toilet tents - We have planted screening trees/bushes but until they grow up more you can still see the neighbours cottages from some angles. Come and enjoy, it's close enough for one night or more, however you will want to stay forever! Other things to note: Relax, recharge and restore yourself, family, friend, even dogs and horses, in nature, not far from Melbourne but a world away in tranquil natural surroundings. Leave the noise, crowds, pollution and stresses of cities or your daily grind behind and find yourself at this Peaceful Mountain River Campsite tucked away in cool temperate rainforest in the Upper Yarra Valley's hidden secret called Reefton. Nearby there is a rustic pub, picturesque farms, national parks, forests and rivers, nature, quiet and fresh air. This is a place to rest, rejuvenate, recover or get out and about to enjoy a large range of scenery, nature, recreation, history, arts or entertainment nearby. The property consists of 2 peaceful open forested acres bordered by a river and adjoined with state forest. Staying in the bell tent with a solar light you can let the burbling brook serenade you to sleep and birdsong greet you to a day of relaxation. Also great for fishing, paddling or just sit by the water and dream. Our cottage is nearby but not too close and the bell tent is amongst the magnificent tall trees and lush ferns to enjoy nature at it's best. An onsite parking space is provided and it is a short walk down a slope to the bell tent. The river is shallow, there is a bit of a steep slope with steps to get to it and has stones on the bottom so crocs/river sandals are recommended. No responsibility taken for state of steps or accessing the creek. Alternatively a swimming hole is located at a different part of the river upstream the end of our street - about 30 sec drive or 10 min walk. Guests will have access to a shared bar fridge and camp compost toilets and washing up station. Guests can drink the available water which is rain water double filtered or BYO drinking water. There is a communal fire pit available, so guests can enjoy a campfire in the evenings, which can also be cooked upon if you bring your own grill/billy. Please abide by any local fire restrictions during your stay. A post and rail horse yard can fit 6 horses who get along though it is small so they will need to be out during the day. A shelter can fit two ponies. The Sanctuary is on the glorious Warburton - Marysville - Healesville Curcuit so there may be occasional sound of a car or bike. Speaking of sound, this is a peaceful spot. We do not allow amplified/speaker/radio music. No exceptions. Please bring your headphones if you want music and don't wreck the serenity for others. We are only 10 mins from the famous Redwood Forest, the Ada Tree walk, Little Peninsula Tunnel, Big Peninsula Tunnel and the Thai Forest Bhuddist Monastery. All the quirky delights of Warburton are only 20 mins away including the Mt Donna Buang Summit Scenic Tower, Rainforest Gallery, restaurants, shops, swing bridges, water park, riverside walks, picnic areas, historic Arts Centre with regular cinema and live performances, the unique Bob's Place, art studios and more. The nearby Aqueduct trail takes you on any part of a 30km route through magnificent rainforest for walkers, riders and cyclists and the Upper Yarra Dam has scenic views over mountains and water. Half an hour away is both the Lake Mountain x-country ski fields and tobogganing and the Mt Donna Buang scenic snow and tobogganing in winter. We have 2 toboggans available for hire. Getting there is best by car however you can cycle the Warburton Rail trail and then cycle to our place or get on the bus from Lilydale station and ask to be dropped off at the last stop in East Warburton (Valentine Road). Bikes can travel on the bus and then in our ute when we pick you up (by prior arrangement). While this is the perfect spot to do nothing or bushwalking, fish, paddle, you can enhance or deepen your restoration of mind-body-spirit or mental, emotional and physical health with onsite Restorative Yoga, Reiki, Bodywork and guided Meditation/Deep Relaxation. Half day and full day tours are available. All By prior arrangement. Here are attractions in list form: Markets Festivals Fishing Rustic local Pub Picnics Swimming Kayaking Rafting Tubing Mtn biking Road cycling Dirt biking Art Photography Visit The Ada Tree, Victoria's largest tree O'Shannassy Trail Redwood Forest Art studios Warburton Visitor information centre Historic Warburton Waterwheel Blue Lotus Water Garden Upper Yarra Arts Centre La La Falls Rainforest Gallery Acheron Way Healesville Sanctuary Black Spur Art & Gourmet Trails Lake Mountain snow Exploring Historic Trail Onsite Wellbeing Golf course with spectacular views, restaurant/bar Wineries Scenic drives Horseriding trail rides Mount Donna Buang with tower top scenery in summer and snow play in winter Mt Little Joe and the backstairs track Warburton Swing Bridge Do nothing...or do something...or do lots - it is up to you and it is all here!

River, stream, or creek bell tents in Victoria guide

Overview

There are so many ways to go wild in Victoria. Fall asleep to the boom of the surf from your beachfront campsite, drive one of the world's most scenic coastal roads, glamp it up in the middle of a vineyard, or touch the sky in the snow-capped high country. If it's animal encounters you like, you'll love the penguin parade on Phillip Island and dolphin swims in Port Phillip Bay, as well as the chance to see koala colonies, mobs of kangaroos, and platypus-filled streams. Plus, the bonus to Victoria is that nowhere is more than a day's drive from Melbourne—many of the best campsites are only a few hours drive from the city—so you can cram a lot of fun into a relatively short amount of time.

Where to go

Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne is one of the world's great scenic road trips, but there’s much more to see and do than snapping a selfie at the Twelve Apostles rock stacks. Zipline above the rainforest in Great Otway National Park, climb lighthouses, watch whales, surf iconic Bells Beach, and pitch a tent on any one of several beachside camping areas. Road tripping doesn't get much better than this.

Gippsland and the Bays

Gippsland stretches east of Melbourne to the sea and north to the border with NSW. Most of the coastline is protected by a string of national parks with fantastic seaside camping spots and holiday parks—and camping at Wilsons Promontory (locals just call it the Prom) on the mainland’s southernmost tip is a must-do at least once. This is also where you’ll find Phillip Island, home to the famous nightly penguin parade.

The Victorian Alps

The High Country is the place to go for winter snow sports and summer mountain bike trails, plus bushwalking. If that sounds too energetic, it’s also home to the Great Alpine Road, one of Australia's best food and wine touring routes (and yes, the scenery is pretty good too).

The Grampians

In the state's west, the Grampians are another mountain playground with a network of bushwalking trails, from quick 2-hour walking tracks to 3-day hikes in the Grampians National Park. This is also where campers can find the highest concentration of Indigenous art in the state. Opt for bush camping sites in the national park or more luxurious campsites at Halls Gap or Dunkeld caravan parks.

Murray Riverlands

Australia's longest river, the mighty Murray forms most of the border with NSW to the north, and all along its length are great beachfront campsites from where you can go for a swim or paddle a kayak, catch a fish, or sit back and watch the world glide by. Elsewhere in the riverlands, ride a restored paddle steamer at Echuca, take a cruise through the largest river red gum forest in the world at Barmah, and dine out in the foodie hot spot of Mildura.
