Camping near Sorell guide

Overview

If you’re driving from Hobart to the Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur, you’ll almost certainly pass through Sorell, a small town on the shore of the Orielton Lagoon. It’s just a 20-minute drive from the capital across the Sorell Causeway, making the coastal town a strategic base for exploring Hobart without the crowds. Campers and caravanners can take advantage of the town’s self-contained caravan park, which has unpowered sites and an on-site dump point, or look out for plenty of Sorell campgrounds, holiday parks, and Hipcamps dotted around the region, along the southeast coast, and on the Tasman Peninsula. While in town, you can follow one of Sorell's heritage walks to admire its trio of old churches and uncover the history of one of Tasmania’s oldest towns—Sorell was first established as a farming community in the early 19th century.
