Weekend Trip to Bindarah Downs

We spent 3 nights over Easter at Bindarah Down and absolutely loved our stay. Shane and Kim were warm, welcoming hosts. Shane shared a great overview of the property and its history, and told us all about the animals, including the beautiful horses, cows, and some very friendly dogs. The campground is surrounded by a stunning river, and we were lucky to enjoy perfect weather the whole time. Our son had a great time playing with other kids around the camp and down by the river, it was so nice to see him making friends and enjoying the outdoors. The peaceful setting, combined with the natural beauty of the property, made it a truly relaxing getaway. One small suggestion would be to add a table and chairs at the top of the hill, it's such a breathtaking spot, and it would be lovely to sit and take in the view for a little longer. Thank you, Shane and Kim, for a memorable stay—we’d love to come back!

Great place to camp and Guy and his lovely family were awesome. Great greeting from young Izzy when we arrived. Very handy having a toilet and shower for guests to use. Waking up and seeing all the animals wandering through your campsite is fabulous. Recommend getting a tub of food to feed the animals, although word of warning, don't shake the bucket or you will have all the animals running to your campsite!!

We loved our easter weekend here, beautiful green grass in the camping area , creek was also beautiful to listen to when you wake up in the morning , was a few other campers around but most definitely they didn’t overcrowd the area , We all had a ball and will return for sure…. the only small thing that was a negative and to no fault of the hosts were the people camped just down from us didn’t restrain their dogs which caused issues for our dogs. All in all a very happy Easter 🐣 Thanku so much for having us guys 😁

Top of the World

Look for the big red letterbox with the blue flag on the right. This spot is for people that think that they are the only ones left in the world. Once at the top, it's yours to live in peace and quiet. 56 acres of undulating hills covered with native bush land, with 10 cleared sites for you to set up camp. If you like an adventure then this mountain is for you. 2 sites called "Top of the world tent site 1 and tent site 2" are accessible by 4WD only (tent camping is advised) There is a step 19 degree road up to the penthouse summit thats at 1000ft. However if it is dry you can tow a camping trailer but only if you have a winch. If it rains the only way down is backwards tethered to trees via your winch. It's an adventure. Campers are welcome to have a campfire, there is plenty of timber on the ground that you can collect or bring your own. As long as there is no fire ban. There are some great bush walks you can enjoy, including down to the creek (about a 40 min walk). The creek is picturesque with lemon trees and peach trees along the edge while in season. There are 2 sites down at the creek called Firefly's and platypus and these are for off road self contained 4x4 campers and those with a tent. The creek is pristine and crystal clear unless it's raining. These 2 sites are absolutely private if you book them both. If you don't mind sharing the creek with another camper then you only need to book 1 site. There is also a 10 month of the year 30 metre high waterfall (depending on rain fall this waterfall can vary from massive water to slow water) and another seasonal waterfall. Don't forget the dam for swimming with the spa tub and fresh mountain spring water constantly flowing into it from an inch and a half poly pipe constantly overflowing into the dam. The water in the creek is safe to drink with no filter needed. The creek is running and crystal clear and very private. If you are in a 2 wheel drive RV/ Motorhome you can book the "Paw Paw hill site" or "a dam good view" There is one site that is all grass accessible in the dry weather. Plenty of drinking water is also available at all sites either via a tap or the creek running water. All campers MUST HAVE their own portable toilet. If no portable toilet you can purchase one from many camping stores at a reasonable price before coming. Doing number 2 in the bush is totally unacceptable. Because this is a leave no trace camp site we do ask you to take all trash with you when you leave as well. There is no council rubbish collection in this area. We respect our beautiful paradise and we know you will appreciate it also. If you make a fire please leave it so I can mow around it once you leave. E.G Please remove all sticks.

Figtree Farm has an abundance of bird and animal life. Here, tranquillity reigns, save for the occasional serenade of our friendly neighbourhood donkeys and the odd rooster. If you wish to wander further afield, Kyogle is a 30 minute drive away. And there is an all weather tennis court (with lights) nearby at Bundgeam Hall. Figtree Farm at Findon Creek promises opportunities for contemplation, relaxation and fun and it is our wish that you will have many happy memories of your visit here.

There are plenty of activities to try around town, from bushwalking, exploring the Rail Trail in Murwillumbah and downhill mountain biking at the Uki Mountain Bike Park (Less then 8Km from our property). The property is just 5km from the beautiful village of Uki. Uki is a place where community spirit hums. Village markets every Saturday selling local foods and crafts. The Old buttery offers ‘the Uki Buttery Bazaar Market’ on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Don’t forget to pop into the Uki Trading Post (Bastion Lane) for the Best coffee in Australia. The Mt Warning Hotel situated in Uki Village also offers all meals as takeaways and a complementary curtesy bus running from Friday 5PM through to Sunday. Stock up on supplies at the village General Store. Pet welcome on leash and under control. Campfires are permitted within local regulations. We do have a bathtub’s on four sites. There’s a table with chairs to enjoy your breakfast or dinner outside.The loft bedroom has a queen bed. There’s reverse cycle air conditioning to keep you comfortable. The kitchen is self contained with a small microwave/oven, a 60 cm ceramic cooktop, a medium size fridge/freezer, a toaster and kettle. The lounge room has a couch, 40 cm TV with DVD player, small table and chairs. There’s no free to air TV channels available. BYO DVD or there’s a small selection available. No Wi- Fi There’s a small firepit and chairs in the yard to enjoy the sun setting over the mountains and stars at night. The cabin is a few minutes drive to the creek where you can go swimming. If it's total seclusion and privacy you're after, "Fig Tree" and "Ridge Top" would be perfect for you. While "The Old Hut", and "Washout" are closer to the road, they are not visable to each other. Our newest addition., "The Reserve" is tucked away on the banks of a special shady grassed area with lots of room to spread out. Guests staying with us must have their own toilet/shower facilities and take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. The sites are accessible for 4WD only. Get back to nature and explore. Many native animals have been spotted on the property wallabies, possums, echidnas, goannas, bandicoots, dingos, and koalas as well as a large variety of birds. Also a variety of frogs i.e.. Red/orange eyed tree frog, desert tree frog, white lipped tree frog, striped and spotted marsh frogs, striped rocket frog and stoney creek frogs. ( see how many different calls you can hear) This beautiful 200acre property in Camp Creek is part of the original "selection" by William Dimmock in 1895. It was a dairy farm, and at one stage the family grew market garden crops on a plateau high up the mountain, using a flyingfox to bring the crops down. Originally the property took in "Screw Gully" from Glenapp up to Tartar Creek Rd. In the 60's Jim Dimmick (grandson to William) sold out and the land was sub-divided. The property now supports up to 40 head of breeding cattle and 2 retired horses. Scenic Rim hosts local wineries; restaurants and coffee shops, and Mt Tamborine, all within an hour drive. Only a 1.5 hour drive to the Gold Coast.

At the southernmost tip of the Gold Coast, surfers flock to Coolangatta, or “Cooly,” for its renowned surf breaks, and sand lovers have five beaches to choose from. Watch the pros riding world-class waves at Duranbah, head to Kirra beach to swim and sunbathe, or enjoy water sports along Coolangatta beach. After taking a dip at the Snapper Rock Pools, hike the coastal trail from Greenmount Hill to Rainbow Beach, and look out for migrating whales and dolphins along the shore. Finally, check into one of the beachfront campsites and take your pick of seafront bars and restaurants.

Where to go

Gold Coast

North of Coolangatta, the Gold Coast is Queensland’s quintessential beach destination. Head to the beaches of Miami or Broadbeach to swim and surf, browse the famous Village Markets in Burleigh, or party until the early hours in Surfers Paradise. Campers have plenty of options along the coast, and adrenaline junkies can head to some of Australia’s most famous theme parks.

Gold Coast Hinterlands

Northwest of Coolangatta, the Gold Coast Hinterlands provide plenty of scope for outdoor adventures. Take a road trip through the Currumbin Valley, stopping to visit the eco-village and cool off with a swim in the Currumbin Rock Pools. Further north, hike along rainforest trails in Springbrook National Park, spot glow worms at the Natural Bridge, and enjoy bush camping in the Numinbah Valley.

NSW North Coast

New South Wales’ most scenic road trip follows the Legendary Pacific Coast route. Set out from Coolangatta and drive south to Tweed Heads and Byron Bay, where you can browse the art and crafts markets, take a surf lesson, or hike along the headlands. Inland, campers can escape the crowds in the Mount Jerusalem and Nightcap national parks.

When to go

The sun rarely stops shining along the Gold Coast, and beach days are possible even in winter (June through August). Summer (December through January) is peak season, when advance bookings are essential, but spring is an equally lively time to visit, with a number of markets, festivals, and outdoor events. Whale watching season along the coast runs from June through October.

Know before you go

The Gold Coast has an excellent public transport service, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the hinterlands and national parks.

Coolangatta has a selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies before heading out into the hinterlands.
Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so be sure to check local recommendations before lighting your campfire and always use designated fire pits.
Camping permits are required to camp in Queensland’s national parks and must be reserved in advance.
