Surf, sand, and TV soap history await at Sydney’s northernmost beach.
It’s known as “Palmy” to the locals, but for the international fans of Aussie TV soap “Home and Away,” Palm Beach will forever be known as “Summer Bay”. Doubling up as the fictional bay, this sunny spot has been the home of the show for more than 35 years—you might even be lucky enough to spot the cast filming scenes by the beach. Small-screen success aside, Palm Beach’s other claim to fame is as Sydney’s northernmost beach, perched on a suburban peninsula between Pittwater and the Pacific Coast. Once you’ve had your fill of sun, sand, and surf, follow the coastal hike to Barrenjoey Lighthouse or head across the water to explore Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. There’s no camping at Palm Beach itself, but you can camp within the national park or catch the ferry to the campgrounds at Wagstaffe, Ettalong Beach, and Patonga.
