This Sydney suburb is a student hub with tranquil parks and nearby national parks.
Between Glebe and Newtown in inner-west Sydney, the unassuming suburb of Camperdown is all-too-often overlooked in favour of its “cooler” neighbours. But this tranquil residential area, which is home to the University of Sydney, is the ideal base for wandering the city, relaxing by the lake in Victoria Park, or urban camping on Cockatoo Island. The beaches and coastal walks of East Sydney are within easy reach, whether hiking the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk, fishing and whale-watching at Malabar Headland National Park, or escaping the crowds at Little Congwong Beach. Outside the city limits, you can hike the overnight Coast Track and pitch your tent at a bush campsite along the trail in Royal National Park. Or head north to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to camp by the beach, boat or kayak along the coast, or hike, bike, or horseback ride along kilometres of rainforest trails.
