Historic Tuttletown is all about the gold rush, lakes, forests, and the parks of the Sierra.
In the heart of California Gold country, there’s plenty of history and outdoor fun in Tuttletown, a registered California Historic Landmark. Enjoy scenic drives along Highway 49, visit a replica of Mark Twain’s cabin, explore the Moaning Caverns, and enjoy water recreation at New Melones Lake, with four campgrounds for tents and RVs available across the Tuttletown Recreation Area and Glory Hole Recreation Area. There are plenty of other lakes with campgrounds to choose from nearby, including New Hogan Lake, Pardee Reservoir, Camanche Reservoir, and Lake Amador near Jackson, and Lake Tulloch, Lake Don Pedro, and Lake McClure past Sonora. Yosemite National Park, with its grand vistas, striking monoliths, waterfalls, and camping options in the valley and high Sierra, is also within easy reach, as are the trails, forests, rivers, lakes, and wilderness areas of the Eldorado National Forest and the Stanislaus National Forest, along with plentiful developed and backcountry camping options.
