Campbell’s Cove

1 site · RV, Tent64 acres · Deep Creek, SA
The block is 64 acres, all to yourself. It is coastal and looks across the channel to Kangaroo Island. There are two valleys suitable to set up camp, both with access to the ocean. There are no facilities here, you must be completely self sufficient. You must also have offroad tyres to manage the roads both on approach and on site. We have taken care to clean the beaches and land of rubbish, please ‘leave only footprints.’ The nearest public toilets are a couple of km away just before Talisker mine. Open fires are risky to wind gusts and not permitted from november through feb when the grass is dry - please ask if you are not sure. All proceeds from camping go towards our revegetation project which aims to clean up, protect and rewild the land. We began by fencing out the neighbouring sheep and are now trialling different plant species to see what best tolerates this difficult environment. As a result w please ask you to refrain from moving the ground cover (or using it for firewood) because it plays an important role in slowing erosion and regenerating the soil. The land is locked and we must arrange for a key hand over, easiest from Adelaide. Dogs are welcome, although there are some large kangaroos on site which deserve caution. We are coming into snake season and have seen multiple brown snakes in recent weeks, please be careful! This site is dangerous and not suitable for small children. There are high cliffs and unstable edges…. However it is also spectacular, rugged, remote and isolated.

Marron Bush Escape

7 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents250 acres · Western River, SA
Welcome to Marron Bush Escape, located in Gosse, in the Western River area (western end, near Flinders Chase National Park) of beautiful Kangaroo Island! This is a beautiful, remote, rural 250 acre private property, it is home to a number of sheep, features dams that have Marron and boasts the best that nature has to offer. Rest assured, you will not see any neighbours on this property; just picturesque landscapes everywhere you look! It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Penneshaw, where you get off the ferry. We offer powered and unpowered camp sites, as well as a bush, cabin. Camp fires (small) are allowed when fire restrictions allow. There is a fire pit that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron. There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water. There is one drop dunny and limited rain water (you are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you need extra). For your convenience, there are recycling and rubbish bins at corner of Snug and Colman’s Rd for all waste disposal. On half of our property we have sheep and lambs in the paddocks. Bring your camera, and you just might be lucky enough to see little lambs playing and even being born. We may also be shearing and invite you to see how this is done. The other half of the property is untouched natural scrub with grass and trees 12 foot tall. There are koalas, eagles, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and lots of other native animals and a creek with small waterfalls. In winter time the ground can be boggy, so a 4WD is desirable and will allow you to explore further. From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). Here, you'll discover 125 acres of untouched Kangaroo Island wilderness with walking trails to explore. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos, wedge-tail eagles, wallabies, large grass trees etc We also have two small lakes that you can have a picnic by or drop some Marron nets in for a fresh feed. There are weighing scales provided at the shed so you can pay for them. This is on an honesty system- so please do the right thing, as we have already been burnt from the fires. You must contact me if you wish to fish for marron prior to catching any. There are no shops or restaurants close by (stock up before arriving!) and you will need to travel down dirt roads but you will really have the opportunity to get off the grid, get back to nature and make memories in the stunning, untouched, Kangaroo Island wilderness! Local attractions include: Kelly Hill Caves Flinders Chase National Park Stokes Bay Cape Borda Lighthouse Middle River Western River

Kangaroo Island Jump Off Road

5 sites · RVs, Tents2000 acres · Inneston, SA
Edenvale Pastorals was originally established as a solider settlers farm, and later was purchased by the Wilmott family in 2001 and converted to regenerative cell grazing cattle farm. The farm was leased for a few years, up until the recent 2019-2020 bush fires. Since the bush fires our family has decided to move back onto the farm and start the rebuild. We will be continuing with the sustainable farming practices and want to give people the opportunity to stay and enjoy the west end. No need to bring your own tent, stay with up to three people in a suspended tent! We can also provide bedding. Should you have a group larger than three, where some people can bring their own gear, we have space for them too. We have a hot outdoor shower, and compost toilet. Pets are also welcome, however must not be in the tent, and must not harass the wildlife. The suspended tent sleeps 3 people maximum. If you have any additional people who bring their own camping gear they are welcome to book our other listing 'Jump Off Road Camp (own gear).' The surrounding paddocks are home to our cattle that pass through occasionally, and during the afternoons you have the opportunity to observe the abundant wild life that come to life, as well as a healthy bird life among the trees. On your stay you have the choice of enjoying the walks and hikes through out the De'mole river and Cape Torrens that are at your door step, go sightseeing in the national park, the De Tong Ling Stupa, Billy Goat water falls or even Western River Cove or just relax and enjoy the serenity of your suspended tree tent experience.Either way, we hope you enjoy what the west end has to offer. Flinders Chase National Park is 40km via bitumen road or 27 km via Shackle road. Keep up to date with road closures through Flinders Chase national park website. Cape Borda Light house is 23km from our farm, there are several hikes in that area such as the Ravine Des Casoars and Harveys return. Keep tabs on their website as the park is closed, however still accessible by foot from the gate. De Tong Ling Stupa is 20km from our farm and is open to the public to visit. Billy Goat waterfalls generally has water flowing through mid winter, but regardless is a beautiful easy hike that comes alive with fungus and orchids early winter and during spring. Be mindful we are 45 minutes from the closest fuel station, at Parndana, and most places close early so it would be wise to be well prepared before getting here. 15km of the road is dirt, just take it easy if you're in a 2wd, and be aware of eagles, kangaroos and wallabies. Please get in touch if you have any questions. We look forward to having you!

Emu Bay Hideaway, Kangaroo Island

8 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents80 acres · Emu Bay, SA
30 hectares of peace, mainly vegetated with Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia, a nationally-protected ecological community). Kangaroos and wallabies are in abundance. It has a wonderful feeling of remoteness and seclusion yet is so close to iconic Emu Bay. Those with 4WD may choose sites overlooking Shoal Bay towards Kingscote. Alternatively, you may set up camp anywhere on the property. There is even one under-cover position with a concrete floor for those concerned about the weather. There are no amenities so guests need to be 100% self-sufficient (including BYO drinking water and toilet) and leave no trace. It is a wild block and only five minutes from the iconic Emu Bay, where the white sandy beach runs for 4kms, most of which is backed by 10 to 20-meter-high dunes. It is one of the best beaches on the island with crystal-clear water. Check with me before lighting a campfire - this depends on the season and risk. Dogs are permitted if well controlled (register visiting dogs with local council). IMPORTANT: I have very limited access to the Internet, only periodically every few days, if that, therefore, I may take some time to respond to inquiries. It is preferred that if you have questions, you can text or call me, Rosalie, on 0490485123. Please note - all bookings MUST still go through the Hipcamp system, no exceptions. Kangaroo Island is serviced by regular ferry - check SeaLink for details.

Camping near Kingscote guide

Overview

After arriving on Kangaroo Island at the ferry port in Penneshaw, it’s a short drive up to Kingscote on the northeast coast. The island’s largest town is the ideal base camp for an island road trip or a day trip to Flinders Chase National Park. Many Kangaroo Island attractions are found along the south coast, but the north coast is the place to escape the crowds and discover secluded white-sand beaches and picturesque red sea cliffs. In Kingscote, don’t miss the giant Kangaroo mural painted on a silo and the view from Flagstaff Hill. Kingscote campers have plenty of options around town and the Bay of Shoals, whether you want to rent a cozy, family-sized cabin, check into a caravan park with powered sites, or go glamping at an eco-retreat. You can also snag a caravan site or tent site at the campground overlooking Emu Bay or camp by the Discovery Lagoon.
