Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Ascension Ranch is an off-grid paradise with a unique and ever growing list of features and activities. Family owned and operated, we want to be that breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life that everyone needs. With a serene environment, a healthy mix of farm animals, and good old fashion ranch activities, there's a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the things you'll come across at Ascension Ranch include baby farm animals, sheep, goats, cattle, horses, ranch dogs, chickens, equestrian activities, hiking, biking, camping, archery, lake activities, amazing views, access to endless trails around Folsom Lake, grass-fed meats, fresh produce and of course, good company. Staying on the ranch can be as social, or as rural as guests choose. Camp alone, or bring others, whether it be your 4-legged companions or friends and family, we welcome all campers who respect and enjoy the great outdoors as much as we do.

Serenity
Beautiful scenery, off the beaten path and very private feeling… Without driving for hours. We didn’t see or hear any other campers as far as you could see in all directions. The dogs were very friendly even to our small children, and were welcome in our site at all times. They made us feel safe. The fire was burning while the kids roasted marshmallows. Coyotes could be heard off in the distance calling to each other, and both dogs jumped to attention and ran off barking into the dark. It was nice seeing and hearing the horses as they walked through and around the property. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the wind mill making whale call noises all night. Otherwise, I could not ask for a more perfect campsite.

Beautiful but stranded @ front gate
Unfortunately due to miscommunication we never got access to the ranch. On the day of arrival the host sent me a text on my foreign mobile phone, but the text was unreadable for some reason. I also received a message through Hipcamp inbox to say I had received a text with instructions for arrival. I responded to both saying the mail was unfortunately not readable. Upon arriving at the ranch gate, which was locked, we attemped to call the host three times over a half an hour period and blew our car horn a few times, but we got no answer. After about 45 minutes (now 7pm) we at long last decided to try our luck at the campsite down the road (Peninsula state campground) because the kids were getting hungry. After about half an hour the host texted us to say all my messages had only just arrived all at once. I presume they may have had no reception while we were waiting at the gate. The host offered us to stay another weekday night, but since we have pre-booked other campsites this is of no use and we have ended up paying for two camp sites for the same evening. The ranch and environment looks beautiful, but access to camp site and being able to reach the host is kind of crucial, so sadly I cannot recommend Ascension Ranch.

Eagles Nest
Drive up to eagle's nest from the main area is definitely bumpy, but not difficult. Porta potty and extra long picnic table at the site. Fire pit on the lower level. Views of the lake was good but some maintenance (weeds were quite overgrown around the campsite) would make the view even better. Very good cell phone service. Potable water only at the base area. Two very friendly dogs joined us at various times. They seem to roam the property. Overall a positive experience. Maybe we can check out the horses next time when we camp near the main area.

Great property with helpful people and ranch dogs onsite. The meadows site was a great spot with easy access to the Darrington Trail on Folsom Lake through the gate nearby.

Oak Bottom
It was my first camping trip. And it went great. Kinda hard to find the way to the lake but if you van find the dirt road, it leads straight to the lake, it takes around 10-15 minutes to walk there. The camping spot is clean. There is a fire pit that you can do campfire. The space is very private, quiet and peaceful. Will definitely come back to check the Eagle Nest hiking trail. The host was very friendly and helpful. Showed me everything I need.

Camping with horses
My family and I had a great time. It was so cool seeing horses roam around camp and visited by super sweet dogs that are big as horses. The lake was a short walk away with tons of huge fish to catch. Beautiful views a very nice and private campsite. Just beware of ticks in the tall grass and bring a remover and repellent.
