John’s place was a wonderful getaway. We had a fantastic stay on the canal. The property is gated and our dog really enjoyed the space to run around. Fishing from the deck was a highlight, and the kayaks provided a great way to explore the water. The space was clean and comfortable, with beautiful views. I was in town for work but decided to tent camp instead of stay in a hotel to get away a little bit. Jennifer found a flat secluded spot for me to set up, and assured me to reach out if I needed anything. The gated property is quiet and clean, and being close to the coast brought a nice breeze so bugs were not an issue. Overall this was a great place to camp out. The sunrise and sunsets are beautiful. Having full hook ups for our popup camper was nice too.
It was very peaceful, plus you’re super close to the water. The only thing that this spot is missing is a dedicated fishing pier. Fish is not bad from the pad. We managed one catch, but a fishing pier would be an absolute game changer! Overall I would definitely recommend this spot! Thank you letting me and my family enjoy your property sir!

We had a great time at Titus’ waterfront lot! The setting is great (right on Copano Bay) and the utilities are all in place for a super simple and relaxing time. The check in instructions were very clear and Titus was a great communicator. I would recommend booking this private waterfront lot and we would certainly consider coming back.

We were pleased with our weekend stay. The neighbors are close but not a bother to us, in fact we only had seen them out on one occasion. We loved the convenience of having everything close by to us. The owner was available to answer some quick questions we had and that’s always a plus in our book! All hookups work well. We will stay here again in the future. I give this little spot a 4 out of 5 stars!

I dry camped at a ranch among cows facing a good size pond. It was amazing ! Cows run free at this private ranch and surrounding my campsite, no fresh dung on the grass (dry ones here and there), no flies and no farm smell. A gentle wind at a good flat grassy area, look out for the Texas fire ants, bring pecaridin sprayed long socks. Your amazing host Jennifer will greet you. I met the nicest host ever! In the evening she invited me to feed the animals: beautiful highland cows from Scotland, goats, alpacas and so many other animals. I enjoyed my visit very much. Thank you so much. I recommend this place ! There is a small air field nearby - I watched a biplane practice touch and go. I will return here and read and do crafts for a couple of nights. I did see someone on a kayak.

Overview
About
Golden sandy shores, sloping dunes, and coastal lagoons stretch along the coast of Mustang Island, and five miles of it lies within the state park. Head down to the ocean for a swim, cast a line off the shore to fish for trout and flounder, or bring your kayak or canoe to follow part of the Mustang Island State Park Paddling Trail. Campers can book a spot at the Mustang Island State Campground, where all sites have electric hookups. Alternatively, pitch a tent right on the beach at one of the 50 primitive sites.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve one of the 48 developed campsites at Mustang Island State Campground via the Texas State Parks website. Primitive sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
- Online reservations open five months in advance.
- Campsites can book up fast, especially over summer weekends and holidays, so plan ahead and book as soon as possible.
When to go
Peak season at Mustang Island State Park runs from April through October, and the park often reaches capacity, so it’s a good idea to book ahead. Arrive early to snag one of the beach campsites and expect the beach to get crowded on summer and holiday weekends. Bird-watching is popular throughout the year, but sightings are most common during the spring migration.
Know before you go
- Mustang Island State Park is set on a barrier island between Corpus Christi Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. From Corpus Christi, it’s a 25-mile, 30-minute drive across the causeway.
- Park entrance fees apply in addition to camping fees.
- Facilities include a park store, restrooms, picnic areas, a fishing pier, and a dump station. Several porta-potties sit along the beach.
- You can fish along the coast and marshes, but fishing licences are required.
- There is no lifeguard patrol at Mustang Island, and swimming is at your own risk. Watch out for stingrays and jellyfish, and never swim after sunset.

There are no substantial shade structures at the campground and it is obvious it is geared towards RV camping. If tenting bring plenty of bug spray as the summer time is when the mosquitos are out. During the day the off shore breeze keeps them at bay but towards dusk as the winds die down is when they come out to play. Close to the beach and has good shower facilities but it is a bit of a walk to the restrooms. Also, your tent will get sand in it and it's unavoidable. It's just part of camping along the coast.

Mustang Island is a great spot to enjoy the beach. It's clean, quiet, and always has plenty of space. There are shower spickets on the beach, so you can rinse off if needed, as well as porta-potties. Every time I've been, it's been a bit windy at night. So be prepared for some flying sand.

We've camped twice at MISP. The first was in July 2013. The sand was so hot it burned the pads of our feet but we didn't mind at all! We originally reserved a spot in the numbered campsites not realizing you cannot see the ocean because of the dunes. If you have an RV it's great but we opted to move to the primitive sites directly on the beach. We arrived on a Wednesday and loved the quiet seclusion. However by the weekend the beach was overflowing with day use guests. Don't worry though, they all seem to clear out just in time to enjoy a tranquil sunset and dinner by the campfire. However, it's the sunrises that are really spectacular...wake early and enjoy.

We had a great experience at Mustang Island State Park. The beach was clean and there was plenty of space for a private campsite. In fact, it was as if we had the entire beach to ourselves. Mustang Island SP offers camping in a developed camping area directly behind the dunes, OR primitive beach camping (review left by Ryan Jordan below is actually incorrect). SP entrance and camping fees apply to both. While there are plenty of people, it's a nice alternative to the more crowded (& dirtier) beaches of nearby Port Aransas.

Actually, the previous tip is incorrect. Mustang Island SP is like big parking lot behind the dunes for RVs. You can camp on the beach and it only requires a $12 yearly beach parking sticker for your vehicle., but it is unrelated to Mustang.

Mustang Island is a great place for beach camping. They do not have designated sites, you just drive right onto the beach and pick where you want to pitch your tent. You should not have trouble keeping good distance from your neighbors, which gives you a sense of having your own private beach! Disclaimer though to some cars with low clearance..you may get stuck in the sand! Rangers are on hand to pull you out though in case it happens!
