Aug 2020 trip
Sarah K.has mixed feelings towards this listing.
Overall, we had a good experience at this site as what we were mainly looking for was a peaceful place to get away. The site is private, only neighbors were those at the ORV trails and those staying in the lodge (where the restrooms are), though neither ever came by our site. The site has lots of trees (perfect for hammocks), a nice open space around the fire pit for star gazing, and multiple flat spaces for tents. The only downside to the site is that there is glass everywhere. So much so that Iâm honestly not sure what could be done to remove it. This poses a problem for little ones that like to explore freely or maybe that drunken friend that canât stay upright.
The walk to the bathroom is probably farther than you want to make in the middle of the night, but it was so nice to have real toilets, showers, and toiletries at our disposal. The host was very responsive when one of the toilets went down and fixed it and notified us immediately. Make sure to keep the lights off and the door closed when not in use or the bugs will take over.
The only disappointment for this trip was that there really was no safe access to the lake. We chose the site partly because it listed swimming close by and it was really hot. However, we tried several of the local state park sites within 10 mins of the site and were never able to find access to the water. Maybe at other times in the year with higher water levels, itâs more accessible, but the only thing we found were huge drop offs and pretty swift water.
Overall, I would camp here again, but my expectations of activities would be different. If youâre just looking for a peaceful place to relax, this was great, and if youâre coming to the ORV site this would be an excellent base camp.
