Mountaintop Solitude
in Great Greenbrier Getaway, West VirginiaI had a wonderful experience camping here with a group of 4 for two nights in mid-August. This large private campsite is in a gated community that was isolated enough that we could be loud until the wee hours of the morning without disturbing any neighbors. (In fact, we didn't see any other people or vehicles the entire time we were up there.) Because it is located on a mountaintop, there were great views during the day and the nights were temperate, with relatively few biting insects (compared to other places I've camped out East, that is--but you should definitely still bring bug spray). During the day, the canopy provided enough shade that the temperature was pleasant even though there wasn't much wind. We also saw some cool wildlife and a bunch of shooting stars, which was fantastic. The only two very small negatives I can share were: the terrain at the campsite is slightly uneven (although Josh is building a platform which should remedy this issue for future campers) and making arrangements to drop off the keys took us a bit out of our way before we headed home to DC. Neither of these things very minor issues should dissuade you one bit from booking here, however. Our host (Josh) was friendly, communicative, helpful, and gracious in accommodating some schedule changes we had to make on short notice. All in all, this was a 5-star experience that will make it difficult to go back to car camping at a traditional site with neighbors, quiet hours, and the like. In sum, I highly recommend camping here if you're in the area.
Justin hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
