The best camping near Cascadia State Park

At the meeting point of the South Santiam River and Soda Creek, with a backdrop of the Cascade Mountains, Cascadia State Park is an idyllic retreat for campers. Walk the forest trail to Soda Creek Falls, follow the 19th-century military route of Santiam Wagon Road, then picnic beneath the shade of the Douglas fir trees. There are plenty of ways to get on the water too, whether rafting along the river rapids, cooling off with a swim in the riverside swimming hole, or fishing along the river. Seasonal camping is available at Cascadia State Park Campground near the east picnic area. 

1. Cascadia State Park has just 22 tent sites, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Get there early to secure your spot if camping in July and August or on holiday weekends. 
2. Two group campsites with space for tents and RVs can be reserved through Linn County Parks and Recreation.

Camping is only possible in Cascadia State Park during the spring and summer months, and spaces can fill up quickly, especially in the busiest months of July and August. The campground, group camping sites, and east camping area are open annually from May 1 through the end of September, the best time for water activities. Winter visitors can still make use of the year-round west picnic area.

• Cascadia State Park is located 15 miles east of Sweet Home, about a 20-minute drive along Highway 20.
• Camping at Cascadia State Park is primitive and there are no electric hook-ups—facilities include restrooms and showers, picnic benches, and drinking water. There is no wifi and limited cell service within the park. 
• Pets are allowed in the park and campground but must be kept on a leash. There is also a dedicated off-leash area.
• Fire bans are common during dry periods—if local regulations allow it, campfires are permitted only in provided fire rings.
