The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road.  Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities.   Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended.  It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy. The Ranch at Cross Road is amazing! Beautiful and flat campsites, gorgeous views, and really easy to access. This was a really quiet and dark spot, we got such good sleep. Matt was a great host, great and clear communication. We arrived later at night and everything was perfect 👌 Thanks Matt!

Weekend Trip to Storybook hilltop Retreat

Great place to spend the night with family. Beautiful night views and sunset views. The road to getting there is a one way lane and very narrow so keep that in mind. It gets very windy also. They have a large tennis court u can play in. The domes are pretty cool and also have some chicken in the back of the hills u can check out. Hot showers and toilet available there’s bbq equipment u can use too.

This is a great site to relax- beautiful sunsets, quiet and not too far from a super cool general store with live music! This is basically a meadow where there are a couple other longer-term sets ups along the edge but they’re a good distance away and we didn’t really notice them except the occasional car coming/going. Art was great and very helpful showing us our site. We’ll be back for sure!

Everything was so convenient! Gas tank for the BBQ grill was ready, tools for grill, tables and benches, etc. The entrace ramp is indeed steeper than I thought, but it wasn't a problem with an Outback (didn't scratch bottom). Definitely recommended!

Weekend Trip to Bear Gulch Hide Out

We stayed two nights at the Ridge campsite, and it was heavenly. It was just as advertised: gorgeous views in all directions including sunsets over the Pacific, total privacy, quiet and dark at night. This time of year (March), everything is so green and the cows dot the nearby hillsides. Art was a delightful host, and our dog loved sniffing and exploring the grounds. We'll be back!

As others mentioned, the road up the mountain was very bumpy, and took me an extra 15 minutes as I was worried for my rental car, but it was doable. Instructions were clear and I was able to find my campsite without issue even in the dark. The view was beautiful, just as described, and the site was secluded and spacious.

The space was definitely relaxed and inviting. This is perfect as a stopping or launching point for van or car campers. The community area is a pretty cool aspect if you choose to use that, and I loved the shower. It wasn't as "nature-y" as I usually like, but for the price and availability and the super relaxed atmosphere, I'm glad I went.

Beautiful place to stay! So peaceful and quiet under the trees at the camp spots. My dog and I would walk around the winery in the morning and evening. And Bodie the dog is so nice and friendly! Will definitely plan to stay here again.

Del Valle Family Campground

You will need any watercraft to be dry as a whistle or you risk invasive species that could close the lake. Make sure your paddles are taken apart to get dry and you will get inspected first thing before you head to the campground.

Dog friendly! The space is open and lots of hiking groups go through the camp grounds so you'll see lots of other people throughout the day, it's not a secluded campsite. The lake nearby is great for paddle boarding and a cold swim.

Really lovely spot for an easy getaway. I'm a pretty experienced backpacker, but needed a place close to San Francisco to break a friend into car camping. This was the perfect spot for it. It was active and I think fully booked, but not as crazy as I expected. Lots of kids around, so get earplugs if you sleep light. The sites are large and spacious, so even if you max out with 8 folks to a site you should be fine. Really great facilities, the fire pits are top notch. The reservoir was a little lame, the trails are generally ok. Nothing epic, but generally really pleasant. Probably where I'd take kids to for their first camping trip to break them into the outdoors.

Del Valle Family Campground

Potable water available in conveniently located spigots along the family campground road, among the sites. Dogs on leash allowed for a fee. Fire pits are provided - there may be fire restrictions at times, but normally you'll enjoy having a campfire. September weekends and weekdays are generally not fully booked and not totally empty, either.

The campsites are pretty close together so expect to hear and see all your fellow campers. We had a number of people with dueling sound systems. Still, I like the fact that it's only a little over an hour from the bay area and the scenery is nice. We spent a day on the lake paddle boating and then just lounging around our camp site. Bathrooms were cleaned and restocked everyday and the camp store had everything we needed. Site 133 had a nice shaded spot for our tents; other sites are not so lucky, it's very hit or miss.

Del Valle Family Campground

This is definitely a family-oriented campsite. Lost of kids running around during the day. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend a set of earplugs or headphones, otherwise you might hear kids crying or partying from nearby camp sites into the night.

If you’re up for it, head out to the Ohlone trail. It offers a whopping 29 mile hike that provides an awesome backcountry perspective on the area.

Del Valle Family Campground

Lake Del Valle is great for kayaking or SUPing, or you can kayak in to some of the sites for overnight camping.

This is not necessarily a tip, but the showers are FREE! Now, you’d think they would lack the necessary comforting facilities with such generous nature, but the bathrooms consistently have hot water and clean washrooms, so we wouldn’t consider camping here “roughing it.”

Great park year round, and even better in the "winter" when there are less people. Tons of campsites, Rent fishing boats, fish from shore, miles of hiking, great views. It feels far enough removed from the city, and only a 60-90 minute drive.
