Glamping Canvas Tent @ Treetopia
It could've been great...
We can tell that this campsite has great ambitions and the host was really nice. Unfortunately, there were several things that made our trip slightly less exciting than we anticipated.
First, we were told that check-in was after 3pm so we figured we'd take our time to get there. We received calls from the campground just before 5pm to tell us the office was closing and to know when we'd arrive. While the host was very nice despite our later arrival, I wish the office hours would have been more clear in the email sent prior to our trip.
Once settled in, we realized we didn't have the site we requested. We had 2 twin beds instead of one full/queen bed. It was suggested that we move the beds but it wouldn't have been an easy task considering the bed shelves and there would have still been a huge gap between the beds from the bed frame. We received sleeping bags instead of the nice blankets pictured on the website. The lanterns provided in our tent were pretty useless, unlike the ones (Coleman) we saw in all the other tents. We also didn't have a picnic table the first day and had to go ask for one the following day. Overall, it felt like they quickly threw together our campsite with bits and pieces instead of having the experience pictured online (and seen on all the other Glamping sites).
The biggest issue we had was the crazy amount of noise allowed late into the night. I have never been on a campground in my life where there isn't some type of curfew. The tent next to us (as well as another one farther away) was blasting music until 2am on both nights of our visit. This was extremely frustrating.
While we appreciated the extra items we could rent for our trip, considering the cost for the Glamping site, it felt like some of it should have been included, since Glamping tents are meant for people who don't usually camp (we have a lot of camping experience but don't have any of the supplies anymore since we live in NYC). While I fully understand needing to pay for firewood, paying extra for bedding, the cooler, the grill felt somewhat like a rip-off in this particular experience. We also ended up being charged for some items that the host said would be "on the house" at the beginning of our visit.
Our favorite part of the trip was the quiet afternoon on the campground, when our party neighbors had left for the day. We could finally enjoy our campsite without too much noise around.
I can tell that the people running the campground are trying to provide a great experience but it's almost like there's a lack of campground experience preventing it from being as wonderful as it could be. While I doubt we will return to this campground, I do hope they will figure out all these quirks for future campers.
