Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Nestled on the banks of the Washougal River in the heart of the historic Camas/Washougal area, The 'Shoug RV and camping area provides close access to everything these two quaint cities offer, while giving you 2+ acres of private wooded and riverfront space with excellent steelhead and seasonal salmon fishing. Located right off the 3rd Ave thoroughfare, there is a municipal skate park across the parking area, as well as an adjacent public boat ramp. Ask about inner tube rentals and river shuttle services, long hikes or short strolls, outdoor adventures, or any other local recommendations. We are excited to introduce you to the amazing opportunities in this neck of the woods. Rescued from overgrowth and misuse by 3 local neighboring families/friends just down the road, this historic site (Willie Nelson started his career on these same grounds) is a work in progress, as we develop trails and greenspace with accommodations to make your camping experience more enjoyable. We would love your feedback and ideas for future improvement! Things to be aware of: the area is slowly being reclaimed from blackberry overgrowth. There are thorns associated. Traffic is steady along 3rd Ave, and the skate park and boat launch have regular visitors. The river is shallow on the property side, but there is a channel on the far side, slow moving during summer but can increase during the other seasons, depending on precipitation. There is a Porta potty and trash can near the skate park, but currently none on site. Small fires are allowed as long as there is no city ban at the time. Please do not cut down any trees for firewood, but feel free to use any sticks that are on the ground.

Loud Road, Limited Privacy
Super easy to find, and conveniently located next to the river via a short walk down a trail. The river itself is very pretty, but was not the main reason we chose this location. Nice fire pit and log seats onsite. The nearby towns have plenty of food options. However, I felt the description was not very honest about how close this site is to the road. I didn't see much about it in the reviews either, so sharing my honest opinion here. I thought that the site itself would be more tucked away from the road, but that is not the case. There is really no privacy, the street lights were bright, and the road noise kept us from getting a good night's sleep. Because it is next to a public skate park, we saw/heard people walking by at all hours of the night (as late as 3am). We felt exposed and weary of leaving things at camp to go into town. Because of all of this, we decided to end our two-night stay early after the first night and paid for a state-ran campsite elsewhere that felt safer and had no road noise. Overall, I would recommend this if you're just looking for a place to get some sleep or rest overnight. Wouldn't recommend for a family-oriented camping trip.

Maybe a nice future campsite
The campsite has potential and I see how this could be a nice spot in the future. It was green, near a nice river and walking path. For my taste is was to close to the main street and the city skatepark. It was quite loud. The other thing was the visit from the really friendly police officer, the next morning, who asked if we had paid. And for this overall experience it was too expensive.

Between Waterway and Roadway
This site might appeal if you're into water sports, as it's quite near a popular boat launch. I wasn't there for that but my neighbors were, and I could see and hear lots of people enjoying the river on a hot day. It's primitive, so come prepared to manage your waste responsibly. Jeff is a friendly and kind host (he even offered me the loan of his hatchet). I saw no wildlife other than birds, and came away after two nights without mosquito bites. The garage band playing to an enthusiastic crowd across the river could use a few more years of practice, but my earbuds canceled them effectively.
