“This was a new site for me, I was looking to get away from corporate life and relax for the weekend. I woke up to beautiful mountain views, and I was the only camper there, which made it feel peaceful and private. As a woman traveling with my son and dog, I felt safe, and we really enjoyed exploring the trails together.
That said, the property could use some TLC. There were scattered pallets and debris around parts of the site, and the barbed wire at the entrance gate was a bit difficult to navigate and did cause a few minor nicks when opening and closing it. There were also several dogs barking upon arrival, which may be something to be aware of.
The cabin itself could use some maintenance, one of the beds was wobbly, and we were unfortunately locked out for a few hours in the heat. Ted was kind and responsive and sent someone to help, which I appreciated.
Overall, it served its purpose as a getaway, but with some upkeep and attention to detail, it could be a much more comfortable experience.

Quite remote with no one there. Lots of dogs barking at you with barbed wire fencing for dog area and looped on entrance gate. Lots of cinder blocks and pallets laying around. Port a pottie hasn’t been used in a while. Place has potential but hasn’t seen much upkeep.

I enjoyed the solitude. My husband was not as excited as the drive in was a bit rough. We were the only campers that eve. Directions were spot on and the camp was clean.

This is a special place. The amount of work and care put into this property is mind-boggling. Also, I was able to ask the host questions and he answered immediately, even answered my phone call at night when I was having trouble finding the spot. GREAT deal. Remember though, you’re in the west Texas desert! Respect the land, if you want it to respect you.

Take plenty of water. Road gets very slippery when wet. Deep cracks on the road. Loved the hiking and the starry nights. Quiet lovely nature.

It was a little spooky for a single female camper bc it was very empty and lot of rusted out stuff right and left, but host does care and clearly makes an effort to communicate!

Great stargazing, and a wild desert feeling while still having basic amenities.
Helpful hints (especially if you arrive after dark): when it says turn at the sign, follow the "RV Sites" signs and not the arrows, or you'll end up on private land. after the turn off of the last public road, it's a few miles, and the two gates (left for camping and right for RVs) are right in front of the campground, not earlier on the dirt road [I was confused about whether there might be a separate drive for the tent and RV Sites, but they're close together and you want to follow the desert gardens signs for a good bit until you see both gates]. The bath area is nice, but the shower is visible from some of the sites, if privacy is a concern consider a swimsuit. The pallet bench and table were nice additions for cooking and setting up. Desert sunrise and the 360 view was unbeatable

Interesting campground - I didn't realize I would be shooting hoops and working out the elliptical in the middle of the West TX desert. But the hiking was the main attraction and this piece of land was a lot of fun to explore. I'll check back in next time I'm going to be staying in the area.

This was a great site. Neon lights, a hidden cave, a bottle one sky for star gazing, and amazing views (and in our case free fire wood). Make sure you read the instructions on how to get there (the world is round and if you only trust google maps), otherwise you will end up doing a New York to San Diego via London trip. Great site, great humor from the host in how he has set it up.

Night viewing here was amazing with a clear view of the Milkyway. The land was expansive and very private. We arrived at night, but the directions were pretty clear. The only thing is we couldn't find the showers. We called the host, who was responsive and helpful, but we think maybe we just didn't give him an accurate description of where we were. We probably could've found it but decided to take the L since we could shower somewhere else. I would still definitely come back here.

This place was amazing, to say the least! We absolutely LOVED our stay and Ted was a great host! You can tell that Ted has put a lot of effort in making his space enjoyable for campers from the campsites aura, providing wood for your campfire, and even having games such as a basketball goal, horseshoes, and golf. Ted even went the extra mile to bring us mats to put under our tents and found a little tric for my boy to ride on.
The views were insane and the hike was also solid.
11/10 recommend to anyone/everyone who may be looking to hangout in the middle of nowhere and rejuvenate the mind.

RV camping here was great! We stayed a week and it was very nice. Beautiful, peaceful, RV spots were spread out well, no real neighbors causing issues. It felt like we were alone in nature. If you're traveling through Texas and crave boondocking, but realize Texas has almost no free land, this is a great choice.

Desert Oasis was great and Ted was such a nice host. I arrived after dark but the instructions were spot on. There was a fire pit, but I didn’t have time to enjoy it unfortunately. The weather was perfect and the surroundings were beautiful. Thanks for everything!

The sunrise and sunsets were to die for. His land is perfectly placed in the valley. They welcomed us at the gate and let us pick our spot. We chose the campsite at the top of the ridge. Fire wood and pit was waiting for us to light up and enjoy the stars. Would recommend as your passing through like we did from big bend to Carlsbad

This is a solid option if you like, getting off the beaten path. The owner took extra effort to set up fire pits and even had wood ready which is an unexpected and nice touch. Arriving during the day makes finding this location easier

The directions to this out of the way site are spot on! I sometimes worry about getting stuck somewhere I can’t turn the trailer around, but not this time. The drive is worth it!
The gravel site isn’t level but we coped, and it was great. Lots of sun for the solar panels and privacy for the outdoor shower.
I was distressed to hear from our hostess that Hipcamp doesn’t share the $10 fee we paid with them. Why not? Be prepared to leave a cash tip - it didn’t feel right to do otherwise.

So happy we stumbled onto this property and stayed here. We were driving from FL to AZ and unsure of arrival time but Ted assured us it would be no problem for us to arrive in the dead of night (which we did). The directions to the property he provided were a godsend bc the gps just gave up. We pulled onto the property and were told we could camp anywhere, so we chose to back up to the canyon. What an awesome idea bc the breeze and the views were incredible. The view of the stars we had in the middle of the night and the canyon views the next morning are both scenes I’ll never forget. Booking was a breeze, too. Thanks Ted!

Overall the amenities are amazing.
Amazing birds and sounds. The tents are too close together with no real privacy. It’s very crowded feeling and really would be best in an rv or trailer not a tent.
The outlets in tv6 didn’t work either.

It was just as advertised, and an outstanding value for the money. We especially liked that:
- we were the only ones there
- most of the sites appeared to have fire pits and home made tables set up, and ours had firewood
- we could hike up the nearby hill (and could have hiked more but didnt have much time)
The things to be aware of, in case they might bother you:
- this is not totally isolated, you can see other campsites and neighbors (that are maybe a half mile away). It's not like being in the bowels of big bend where you are the only campers for miles.
- don't get too hung up on getting there; follow the instructions you get after you book and you will see signs. I was a little nervous about this but the path was clear once we got to the end of the paved road. We did arrive during the day so I can't say if it would be as easy at night.
- it's a fairly rough road. a normal car would be fine but you'd have to go slow. Same for a normal RV or travel trailer. We have an offroad trailer and 4wd truck so we were fine. Just something to keep in mind if you are towing a Jayco behind a Subaru or something.

Fantastic! We were passing through and showed up after dark - despite being down dirt roads, the signage was excellent and very easy to navigate (we drove up from Alpine). Ted responded very quickly to all of our questions and was very kind. We caught a beautiful sunrise before we headed out. It was very convenient and a pleasant landscape.

Out in the middle of nowhere down a long dirt road. Great place to unplug and watch the sunset/sunrise. Cows everywhere! This stay was one of my favorites.

The Trailer at Desert Gardens is not glamping by any means. It does however provide ample space for a solo traveler or couple. The fenced in area was great for my dogs! The owner is incredibly friendly and even dropped off an extra blanket on a particularly chilly night. Definitely would rebook!
