Camped Inn at Sundial Farm is located just north of New York City, less than 40 minutes driving distance and 45 minutes via express train from Grand Central Station. The tiny house is a one of a kind, off-the-grid experience. Camped Inn is surrounded by the natural beauty of Westchester County’s oldest working farm. The farm is cool as heck. You can spend lots of time just walking the grounds, picking apples in the orchard, visiting the plant nursery, and saying hello to the folks at Plan it Wild, one of the nation's leaders in rewilding native plants, or just relaxing. When you do end up venturing out, you have options galore in any direction. There are countless outdoor activities, within a stone’s throw. Kayaking the Croton River, Kitchawan Preserve, Teatown Preserve and Lake, New Croton Dam, Brinton Brook Sanctuary, Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway, Riverfront Green Park, Rivertowns RiverWalk, North County Trailway, and so much more.
At night, you can hit a nearby restaurant or brewery - dozens of options within a 5–15-minute drive in any direction - before coming back to the farm to spend the night under the stars by the fire.Camped Inn at Sundial Farm is located just north of New York City, less than 40 minutes driving distance and 45 minutes via express train from Grand Central Station. Camped Inn is an 8.5 x16 tiny house with a loft. The home is thoughtfully and artfully designed; outfitted with elegant high-end bedding from Tuft and Needle and The Company Store, which includes a queen-size foam blend mattress, soft, breathable woven Percale linens, supportive, foam-adapting pillows that wick warmth away, and comfy throw blankets made of cotton blends that provide a finishing touch. The sitting area in the main cabin provides plenty of space, seating, and light. The sofa is custom-made and pulls out into a full-size bed. Outside the home, relax on the deck just off the pond or at the fire ring, which is made from large stones found on the farm. Staying at Camped Inn at Sundial Farm is not like renting a hotel room or a traditional house or even glamping. *PLEASE READ NOTES BELOW* It is like staying in relative seclusion on a farm, tucked away near the woods, next to an apple orchard; and you are staying and sleeping in a comfortable and well-maintained tiny home. You have access to the farm and are minutes away from virtually any activity you can think of – should you choose to venture out. This is a unique, hands-on experience with the comforts of home.
While many of the comforts of home (including a heated shower) are offered here, nothing is simply “flipping on a switch”.
WE ARE OFF GRID -- That means we are not tied into an energy source. We have a solar generator for the basics (lights, fan, cell phone charger, etc.) and a gas generator to run the heat and air conditioning when needed. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO USE THE SOLAR GENERATOR. It's super simple and awesome and we can show you have to use it.
NO FLUSH TOILET -- First, don’t panic! Since we are off-the-grid, the house does not have a flush toilet. Instead, it is outfitted with a waterless diverting toilet; with two chambers. It’s clean, simple to use, and simple to maintain. You do your business and simply toss it out.
NO WIFI -- Bring your a hotspot if you need to access the internet on your computer (although we do encourage you to unwind without it!). Cell service works perfectly at the house and on the farm.
The home and the farm are meant to be an experience. This means making your own fire, getting your boots muddy, working the solar generator, living in a small space, walking through the farm at night, cleaning up before you leave, etc. We try to be as upfront as possible about this amazing property and home – but it’s not for everyone. It’s not a hotel room and the experience is not designed that way. So, please understand what you are getting into before you book; bring proper attire, toss in a flashlight, and be ready to learn about solar energy!
Lastly, for every booking, Dave and I have pledged to plant a tree. Planting trees can increase the resilience of ecosystems and help minimize climate change effects. By booking with us, you are helping to support this cause - so thank you.
