You will be camping on historic property- the place where the women and children hid during the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Your campsite faces Sharpshooter Ridge. This valley area was the home of Wellknown Buffalo, a medicine woman and activist who protected and fed Native families traveling along the river between reservations. Learn more about this historic land: You'll pitch your tent on the Crow Indian Reservation in the historic valley just below the site of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. This area was part of the battlefield where the women and children camped. Campsites are in view of Sharpshooter Ridge. This business is owned by Native Americans. You will be staying near the Wellknown Buffalo Living Culture Campus and Artists Coop. The property has a gate that is closed at night. You'll find a cafe/coffee house, gift shop, horse activities, bathrooms and showers, and a gathering porch. You are just several miles from Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument and centrally located for many local adventures, including the Medicine Wheel, Yellowtail Dam, Warrior Trail Highway and Big Horn Scenic Highway. For the less adventurous, there is a cabin loft rental with a full bathroom, 1/2 mile away.

Campers visiting this site can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere, deeply enriched by the cultural experiences on offer. The hosts are noted for their hospitality, often going out of their way to ensure guests have a comfortable stay while learning about the Crow culture. Many reviews highlight the clean facilities, such as bathrooms and showers, and the unique opportunity to stay in a tipi, which adds a special touch to the visit. However, some guests have pointed out the noise from nearby roads and trains as a slight disturbance during the night.

We were so glad to have a place to park and access to bathrooms and showers on a rainy night. It’s not fancy but had what we needed and the community center/coffee shop is great with amazing art. We would stay again!

Little Bighorn history up close
Location on the historic grounds was meaningful and deepened our experience tremendously. We were greeted warmly by Adam, who guided us to a nearby cafe for dinner and helped make us comfortable for the night. Matthew made our delicious breakfast and both shared information and perspectives of the history and continuing evolution of the American Indian culture. Memorable and lovely.

Stay hWhat a Gift to be with you!
Stay Here!! my family will never forget visiting during Crow Fair and feel blessed to have stayed with Peggy and her camp of family & friends. I didn’t know what to expect and, not wanting to pack a lot on our flight from Massachusetts, had a ton of Qs. Peggy was kind, super responsive, welcoming, and helpful. If unable to reply quickly, she had friends or family help! They set us up basically right on the fair grounds and near the banks of the Little Big Horn River (the kids and I walked over for a swim). We got to be a part of the famous “1,000 tee pees” - on comfortable mattresses and bedding! Our 3 days were interesting, educational, fun, inspiring, moving, tiring, and amazing. Despite warnings to bring ear plugs to avoid road noise / trains, I preferred to fall asleep to the drums from the dance competitions (across the way) and hear the wake up song at dawn. We saw beautiful parades, Grand Entry, Indian Relay races (too tired for the dancing competitions, so I want to go again!). We visited the site of the Battle of Little Big Horn. We went wanting to be respectful (despite knowing zero about Crow culture) and hoping to feel accepted despite not being a part of the Apsáalooke (Crow) Tribe, or having experience visiting any Reservation. We felt included and accepted like family, and wemade new friends. They do important work to support the community and I look forward to keeping in touch and contributing to the food bank and community center as we are able. With Love!

Favorite Spot
Staying here will be a memory that our family cherishes forever. We’ve been on the road for 6 weeks and this was hands down our most favorite spot. We arrived late and were graciously welcomed by Mila, she was very helpful and kind. Watching the sunrise over the field was spectacular. Thank you!!

Wellknown Buffalo is AWESOME!
Wellknown Buffalo – Peggy and her family – is AWESOME! We had the amazing privilege of staying in the family camp for Crow Fair, and had the honor of seeing some of the family's kids first dance – and we really enjoyed visiting with the wonderful people there! They made sure we were warmly welcomed and had everything we needed and more! Having Indigenous ancestry, I have always wanted to go to the Crow Fair, and now that we had the opportunity, it was fantastic – and the kids say they want to return again… We cannot say enough good words about Wellknown Buffalo, the Crow Fair, and the wonderful people we met there!

Grateful!
We were grateful to camp here and reflect on history and place. Mila was generous with her time and with sharing about that history, as well as their good work with the local community. The bathrooms were clean and warm, the weather was lovely for tent camping, the animals were well-mannered.
