A beautiful, private peaceful spot on the Piscataquis River. Would definitely recommend!

If you're looking to camp someplace rural and quiet this site is not for you. Carlisle was a wonderful host, very easy to get in contact with and she has a beautiful slice of land right by a river. Unfortunately (not the hosts fault, but mother nature) there is no beach or shoreline you can access currently from the camp because of the high water, which we were definitely disappointed about, but not the hosts fault. The ladder that is provided to get down to the shore looked really steep, I did not dare try, but its probably better when the water isn't so high. Driving up to the site is exciting and it feels rural, however once you pull into the site you can see the neighbors house and he likes to play a lot of loud music in the early morning and evening- he also did a lot of work on a tractor I think, that woke us 1 morning. It felt like we were at a large campground with lots of activity and noises, there were ATVs across the river that sounded very loud with people talking loudly and playing music all day-maybe the echo from the river makes the ATVs sound very loud? The property is beautiful and well taken care of, just a little more noisy and busy than we were looking for. Yes you can hear the tractor trailers from 95. We considered packing up after 1 night and trying to find another site, but decided our best bet was to use the site as a homebase for our day trip. Someone also walked into our site from the woods asking if the land was for sale.

Nice spot, but not ideal
I had high expectations for this site, maybe that’s why I’m disappointed. Every other hipcamp site I’ve been to has been clearly marked with a sign showing you are in the right place. Not here. Even the gps coordinates are off. Add to that, this is all private property and is clearly marked by many signs, making finding the site very intimidating, even being told to leave by one of the locals. Attempts to contact the host were unsuccessful, and if we had shown up at night, there is no way we would have found it. Luckily, one of the neighbors on an atv was able to figure out where we should be. The banks of the river are steep and there isn’t a beach or anything at the bottom, but the water was warm and the fish were jumping. There is a sketchy homemade ladder to help get down, just not ideal for kids or older adults. But the worst part about this site, and this is not the fault of the host, was the noise from across the river, some kind of monster truck mud rally that included fireworks and Loud music that lasted past midnight, and then started again at 7am. At least it drowned out the traffic from interstate 95? I had 2 nights booked here, only stayed 1.
