ABOUT THE BARNYARD: n*Everland Barnyard is an eccentric art installation space created from found, recycled, and repurposed building materials in the heart of Grant Wood Country in Jones County, Iowa. We are not a commercial campground. We focus on Zen, mindfulness, peace, and tranquility. Firmly in the realm of Outsider Art, Gothic and rustic, Bob Kellogg has created a place unlike anywhere else in the world that represents freedom and inspires endless creativity. The land provides multiple camp sites for easy access to bike and walking trails taking visitors into town or through the Wapsipinicon State Park across the river from the property. Anamosa offers several restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses all within walking distance and less than a mile from our land. Kayak the Wapsipinicon River, we recommend a put in at Matsell Bridge, and end only a mile away from your campsite at the Barnyard in Anamosa at the dam takeout. Visit the State Penitentiary Museum, hang out with the Barnyard chickens, hike our wooded trails, or simply unwind. This place is a magical retreat unlike anywhere else in the world. If you are seeking to disconnect from the world, find presence and live in the Now, this is the place for you. We also offer #ProjectCreatePeace, an initiative to create more peace in the world through art as an art project. Check out the extras listings to get your art on while you are here! There is a beautiful spring-fed water hole ideal for swimming in the state park, as well as access to the river from our property (although we do not recommend swimming in the river due to pollutants.) We do not have graveled sites, so we try to limit the size of the campers/RVs that we allow so our land does not get chewed up from excess weight. If you really want to stay and have a big rig, feel free to contact us, if we have site #1 available that night, we can probably accommodate you.

We do have a cooking rack with pizza stone and cover that can be rented for those who want to make pizza over the fire. The popular Gazelle T4 tent is available at the Barnyard for setup at any campsite of your choosing! These tents set up in just minutes and you can experience how cool these are for yourself. Lots of headroom and space for 4 (but you'll be in there tight with 4) these tents are the latest rage in camping adventures. Rental price is per day. A $25 cleaning fee will be assessed should the tent be left in unacceptable condition upon departing.

Use of our wood-fired pizza oven!*good

We have a wood-fired pizza oven and large patio space on our property. You can rent the oven/patio for a night of cooking with up to 10 guests (consult us for groups over 10.) We will preheat the oven for you and teach you the basics of how to manage the fire. You are responsible for the food items you want to cook in the oven and/or all pizza toppings, but we will provide pizza dough upon request. *This option is not available on special event nights.

Sound bowls at the beach/firesideexperience

NOTE: This is the per-experience price - not per person. There is no way to correctly display this on the site. Experience singing bowls around the fire, or at the beach if time allows. Participants are encouraged to play the bowls themselves, which is a great introduction to those who have never had the opportunity. This is a superb way to reconnect to nature and find deep inner peace. Up to 5 people fit on the beach easily, but we can do a larger group around the fire, just let us know your desire!

We have a 16' Nomadics teepee set up on the property. There are a few pads on the ground that can be slept on, but no formal bedding, you will need to bring your own sleeping gear. The teepee is a traditional, so it will let rain in during a hard storm, but it is possible to find and sleep in a dry space, but we do not guarantee your stay to be completely dry. No fires allowed in the teepee structure.

n*Everland Barnyard was the coolest experience I’ve had in a long time! Bob, Xene and Lynsey were all very welcoming and accommodating. They were so fun to hangout with and the conversations were great. The amount of art on the property is amazing and eye opening when you consider what it all represents. It was such a peaceful place too. They even made me breakfast in the morning and took me on a mountain bike adventure through town to Horse Thieeves Cave! I had a blast and recommended this beautiful place to anyone. I will certainly be back myself! Thanks again Bob, Xene and Lynsey! Andy

First stay and we are already looking forward to returning for a festival or event next year! Great communication and directions! We received warm greetings as we arrived. Bob & Zene showed us around, offered suggestions for activities on the property and made sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Location was close enough to town if you needed anything but felt secluded enough to rejuvenate us. There was plenty of privacy but also a welcoming feeling to converse if wanted. We stayed in their teepee for the night. They lined it and provided extra blankets for warmth. During the chilly night we were comfortable. It was a fun experience that was worth the add on! There was so much to explore, wooded hiking trails, limestone bluffs and the river. It was also located near a state park with a waterfall and a couple of small caves to explore. We enjoyed all the animals we saw on our visit, a deer, a racoon, a cat, their chickens and their sweet pup Willow. The property was covered with unique collections and repurposed art sculptures. We were in awe! Its just something you need to see! Everywhere we wandered we saw something else fun! Such a creative inspiring place! Thank you for allowing us to relax, connect and enjoy your beautiful company and peaceful space!

A true gem and a seed of Peace

This was the best hipcamping experience. Robert and Xene are extremely welcoming hosts, and were so fun to meet. And if you don’t try their pizza, you’re missing out! The collection on site is something like I’ve never seen. The land is something really special with access to the river if you feel like a hike. Also, Maquoketa caves is about 40 minutes away and is a must see. n*Everland barnyard is a work of art and we hope to visit again soon!
