We're located on the Historic ROUTE 66 about 20 minutes from the vast Mojave Desert and 5 minutes from the Amboy Crater. We've been feature in endless movies, music videos, commercials, documentaries, You Tube videos, and we have a huge presence on all of your social media platforms. You'll also find about 4 doz craft sodas and XL custom root beer floats. You can also call us "The Ghost Town That Ain't Dead Yet" Just Google us and you'll see....Set up camp on acres of open desert on Historic ROUTE 66. You'll be a 5min drive from hiking The Amboy Crater and just yards from the Golden Buddha and the iconic Roy's Motel and Cafe neon sign. Come over to the station and concoct a custom float with one of our 4 doz craft sodas then browse our specialty ROUTE 66 souvenirs. If you're lucky enough to come in around noon on a Friday, you can enjoy a hot dog or chili dog fresh off the grill. Then sit and enjoy meeting people from all corners of the world, coming in planes, on motorcycles, in cars, on bicycles, on foot or even with a rickshaw.(It's happened before😄) Just wait until you see the Roy's sign lit at night, and see it bask in the desert's sea of stars. Amboy was established back in 1858 and the population grew due to mining, the building of the railroad and finally we began to peak in popularity after the opening of ROUTE 66. You can walk around and check out the 1940s cottages and the 1950s hotel lobby. Amboy just has a special energy, and if you pay attention you'll leave with your own story of synchronicity from the depths of California's mystical desert. Travel safe adventurous adventures and hopefully you'll make your way here soon. 🤙✌️😎😊

Such an iconic place to stay!! It’s really beautiful to see the sign and architecture at sunset/sunrise! We felt very safe and all the staff were super friendly and very welcoming! Loved hearing stories about the town and it was nice to have so much open space with dogs.

Nice place!
Nice place for car camping, the gas station & sign is very pretty and the night sky is beautiful. We were the only one camping that night so it was quiet and peaceful. Quite windy and hot at this time of the year though.

Route 66 Roy's Motel & Cafe
Being completely honest, I’ve camped at many many interesting places….but this one gave me the creeps. The host and Roy’s were awesome, but where we camped I personally would not recommend to friends and family. If you have an RV this would be a great place, but for tent camping, I would skip this location. The ground was hard, first off, so it’s just not overall easy to set up a tent. Second, the camping area is across the street from Roy’s at the creepy church. During the day, walking into it I felt weird energy that made me realize I do not want to test it at night. My group ended up driving to Vegas to avoid sleeping here for the night. Again, would recommend for RV camping, but not for tent camping.
