Hōlua Campsite is a wilderness camp at 6,940 feet in the native shrubland near Koʻolau Gap.

It’s accessible by hiking 3.7 miles down the Halemauʻu Trail or 7.4 miles from the Sliding Sand Trailhead. You will need a permit to camp here and water is non-potable, so it’s best to carry in what you’ll need. The weather is unpredictable and temperatures can vary from 40-70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Be prepared for rain at all times of year. If it’s stormy, winds can exceed 80 miles per hour with temperatures dropping well below freezing. Groups are limited to 12 people max. head here.
