Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Bogue Chitto State Park adventure.
Paddling the Bogue Chitto River is a Louisianian rite of passage.
Curling its way through rocky bluffs, hardwood forests, and cypress-tupelo swamps, the Bogue Chitto River is one of Louisiana's most scenic rivers, and it runs right through the heart of Bogue Chitto State Park. Rent a kayak to paddle the river, float downstream in a tube, or follow the many hiking trails and boardwalks through the rolling landscapes of the Uplands and Fricke's Cave. The state park also has dedicated equestrian trails for horseback riding, some challenging mountain biking trails, and 11 freshwater fishing lakes. Campers have plenty of options, too—Bogue Chitto Campground has more than 80 pull-through campsites split between the Upland and Bottomland RV camping areas, all with water and electric hookups, plus 16 glamping tents.
While summer brings the crowds to Bogue Chitto State Park to cool off at the lakes and rivers, the cooler weather of spring and fall is ideal for hiking, biking, and paddling. Wildflowers dust the trails from late spring through summer, adding a pop of color to the woodlands. The park and campgrounds stay open year-round, and trails remain accessible through winter.
