Grand Canyon Oasis High Desert Camp

10 sites · RVs10 acres · Doney Park, AZ
We are a family-owned RV park and tiny home village located 50 minutes from the east entrance to Grand Canyon National Park and only 20 minutes north of Flagstaff, Arizona. Our family -- Adam, Shelley, Zoe, Ava, and Cairo -- purchased the RV park in 2021. The property was a trading post for decades but had fallen into disrepair. We have been busy painting, cleaning and improving the grounds to become a comfortable oasis for your family. Our location on US Hwy 89 on the east side of the highway is only a few miles from the breathtaking aspens of Lockett Meadow, the ruins of Wupatki National Monument and the lava flows at Sunset Crater. The park is a short drive to downtown Flagstaff, and on the way to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Moab and Durango. Stay the night or as long as you like! Drink in the hibiscus sunrises above the Painted Desert and relax into the long shadows of the San Francisco Peaks. Let us know if you want to borrow a telescope to explore the darkest night sky you have ever seen! We are excited to share our home with you!

Downtown Perch

1 site · Lodging10 acres · Flagstaff, AZ
This charming yurt is only a fifteen minute walk from historic downtown Flagstaff. It has great views of the city to the south and is near to some great hiking trails and Lowell observatory to the north. I am located close to the train tracks so there is a fair bit of train noise (earplugs are recommended and provided for sleeping). This is a 14 foot diameter yurt with a separate private bathroom and private entrance. Enjoy! * PLEASE READ "OTHER THINGS TO NOTE" BEFORE BOOKING The space The yurt is set back on a hillside and does require climbing some stairs and walking on uneven ground. The area does overlook the train track and there is train noise ( I do provide earplugs and do not offer refunds for train noise). Other things to note This space is not for everyone. I have had complaints from guests about train noise, steep stairs, uneven ground and the quality of the surrounding neighborhood which is predominantly hispanic ( I have never had issues with crime, theft or safety). I highly recommend reading the reviews to get a feel for where you might fall on the spectrum. If any of these are a concern to you please book elsewhere or reach out if you have questions. Also, there are two yurts on this property. Make sure to read and follow the check-in instruction to make sure you find the right one as the second yurt is NOT set up for guests. Thank you.

The best camping near Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument guide

Overview

About

Sunset Crater many get its name from the volcanic rim's brilliant red rocks, but there's more to explore see than just the volcano. The park also contains unique geologic features like lava fields and cinder deposits. Features so unique that NASA astronauts once used this area to practice piloting the lunar rover!

Start your journey at the visitor center, where you can watch a quick video exploring the history and formation of the volcano. Traveling with children? Pick up a Junior Ranger Book so kids can complete activities and earn a Junior Ranger badge.

From the visitor's center, walk the Lava's Edge Trail which passes by the Bonito Lava Flow. The trail then carries on to the main attraction—Sunset Crater. Due to erosion, hiking to the top is prohibited. Instead, you can hike near the base on the Lava Flow Trail. This one-mile loop trail also has amazing views of the nearby San Francisco Peaks, the highest mountain range in Arizona.

While there's no camping in the park, seasonal camping is available at Bonito Campground across the street. However, if you're searching for off-season campsites, check out listings on Hipcamp. Whether your style is primitive or glamping, we can help you find your ideal spot.
