Hawks Hideaway Camping, LLC

17 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents7 acres · Cottonwood, AZ
We offer various camping accommodations, as well as a teepee. See our different listings for info on each. A few choice examples of local activities to do on or very near to our campsite include: Bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, stargazing, and even rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our location. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study.  The cliff walls of the Verde River offer clear and distinct sedimentary layers, and the frequent flooding of the massive sandy riverbed reveals countless undiscovered treasures. We gladly welcome pets, including horses, as long as the guests inform us of their presence, and takes care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess. There is a professional horse-boarding field and stables adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders to follow the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood if they so desire. Please remember that this is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde Ripparian Greenway and the Verde River. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects.

Rogue's Rendezvous

1 site · RV, Tent1 acre · Williams, AZ
Welcome to Rogue's Rendezvous, a private wooded acre near the Grand Canyon. Almost “glamping,” our family and pet-friendly RV camp is near Williams, AZ, "the Gateway to the Grand Canyon." This is a great place to begin your Northern Arizona adventures, gather with family and friends, rest your body and spirit, or stop over on your road trip. This is a unique site and we want our guests to be happy and comfortable. PLEASE REVIEW THE FULL SITE DESCRIPTION and AMENITIES BEFORE REQUESTING A RESERVATION. Unlike typical RV parks, we offer a full acre for your private camping experience; you do not have to share this site with others. The area is fully fenced so you, your well-behaved dogs and kids can run free. The privacy and amenities – somewhere between “rustic” and “glamping” – make Rogue’s Rendezvous a unique space and an excellent staging ground for gatherings and area adventures. Rogue’s Rendezvous is off the beaten path but easy to access (on a well-maintained dirt road) and close to many area points of interest. The property is located off Historic Route 66 (Interstate 40) between Williams and Flagstaff, and an hour south of the Grand Canyon (south entrance). We welcome clean, respectful campers to enjoy our "happy place." The property is in a shady and quiet pine-studded development and is accessed via a sliding gate (somewhat heavy to open). The site is gently sloping with red earth driveways and has three spaces to easily park various RV types with hookups (including electrical and septic only, NO WATER); the RV “carport” that is adjacent to the covered deck can accommodate RVs less than 13 ft high. Full instructions and a site map with hookup locations will be sent with check-in instructions. NOTES: KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! - CELLand Internet Service: This area is somewhat remote, but does have limited cell service – calls are ok, texts work, but texting images or media may not be possible. There is NO WI-FI or internet service here. This is a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy being “off the grid.” - ELEVATION: We are at an elevation of approximately 6400 feet. Take care of yourself to avoid altitude sickness! Drink lots of water, rest plenty, and pay attention to your body. - WEATHER: The weather can change dramatically throughout the day and the year here. Please come prepared for anything, and please check expected conditions prior to camping. Winter conditions may prevent site access between October and April. - There are TRAIN TRACKS nearby (approx. ¼ mile away), and we can hear the humming of passing trains, both during the day and at night. We do not find it problematic (our kids don’t even notice) and some of us find trains fun and exciting (we enjoy watching the train crossing a couple of miles down the road). However, if you are sensitive to noise, this might not be the right place for you. TO DO NEARBY: - hiking, lakes, Historic Williams, Grand Canyon, Bearizona, Rt. 66, and so much more.

The best camping near Montezuma Castle National Monument guide

Overview

About

This is one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in North America. It's tucked into a towering limestone cliff in Camp Verde, Arizona. Not really a "castle" but more like a high-rise apartment, this five-story structure is a magnificent national monument.

Montezuma Castle was built and used by the Sinagua people. This pre-Columbian culture built and inhabited the cliff dwellings between approximately 1100 and 1425 AD. Many families lived here, spread out among almost 4,000 square feet of floor space. It's believed that the structure lasted so long because its strategic placement in a natural alcove protects it from exposure.

Sinagua residents most likely used a series of portable ladders to access the dwelling. Park visitors who traveled to the monument prior to 1951 were allowed to enter the structure by climbing ladders up the side of the limestone cliffs. This was discontinued due to damage to the dwelling and concern for visitor safety.

Today, you can take a 1/3-mile paved trail from the Visitor Center to the base of the cliff where the ruins lie. Check out the museum's extensive collection of Sinagua tools, artifacts, and jewelry. Peruse the bookstore to learn more of the rich cultural heritage of the land and its people. What better way to conclude your visit to Montezuma than with a relaxing picnic in the shadow of the grand castle?

Explore camping on public campgrounds along the way or on private land through Hipcamp for a more curated experience.
