Riverside Valley Camp

1 site · RV, Tent5 acres · Red Deer, AB
Our 160-acre regenerative agriculture family farm came to be in May of 2021. After previously homesteading on a humble 1-acre property our family had dreams of owning more land where we could establish a farm to call home for many years to come and farm in ways that would be sustainable for generations to follow. Upon first look, the heart and soul that the original owners poured into this property shone like the sun glaring on the water of the river. We knew this was the perfect place to call home for our growing family, and a place so beautiful we could not wait to share it with others. Nestled into a Valley aside from a winding riverbed, our campsite offers serene privacy for guests. With a private beach and swimming hole only a short walk away, guests will be able to have fun splashing around in the water on hot days or simply enjoy the breathtaking views through the peaceful forest leading up to the sandy shore.

QWRC Alpacas

9 sites · RVs, Tents100 acres · AB
We are a family-run farm raising Alpacas, Llamas, cats, a dog, and horses. Please review our pictures You will see 2 of our painted buildings - when you see these buildings from the gate, you will know you are at the correct farm. One has yellow sunflowers, a pond & a monarch butterfly saying 'Blessings' and the other has yellow & purple & yellow flowers on it. Our Alpacas & Llamas are not 'halter broke'; however, love to visit our guests when they arrive. Should you & your family wish to hand-feed them their treats (please request when booking your stay, so we have them ready when you arrive), we provide the treats for $10 per adult (14+ years) & $5 per child (13 years & under) per person & will teach everyone how to feed them. Pictures & videos are welcomed; however please share with the Hosts. Everyone must wear 'closed toed shoes", around the animals. With lots of space for kids to play & ride their bicycles, families may take long walks to our 'spring' (sorry no swimming; only for inspiration, peacefulness & wildlife) while picking wild Saskatoons, Raspberries & Rosehips (in season). Please note our farm is 'fragrance free' - no colognes, perfumes, scented deodorant or scented bug spray. We have an 'outdoor bathroom' for your use when one is not enough. We have tables & chairs to eat your lunch &/or snacks (bring own), as we do not offer food for sale. Smoking allowed in your unit(s) only. We have alpaca products & a variety of gifts for sale - such as: hats, mittens, socks, insoles, scarves, yarn, roasting sticks, & raw fiber. We also offer an Alpaca sponsorship program, alpaca ornaments, adventure bags, etc.. We accept donations towards the care of the animals, as well. Payment accepted by cash or electronic transfers (e-transfers) in either currency of U.S. or Canadian dollars - NO exchange rates will be offered (if you have U.S. dollars they will be the same value as Canadian dollars). We are close to several local towns with full services - physicians, dental, chiropractors & hospitals, gas stations, wash & sewage removal stations, grocery stores (Wal-Mart and West Edmonton Mall), restaurants, shopping, banking centers, etc. Please note: Jasper National Park is not accessible due to the devastation of both the park & the town due to wildfires as of July 22nd, 2024. Pets are welcomed - dogs &/or cats, however they must be on a leash, cleaned up after, well behaved, and MUST BE PRE-APPROVED FIRST before request is confirmed, depending on their age & breed. We are open during winter months (weather permitting) for snowshoeing & cross country skiing (bring your own), with a winter campfire & complimentary marshmallows & hot chocolate. We know from time-to-time plans do change & we ask if you would be kind enough to advise us asap & then to cancel with your Reservation Organization to open the space for other campers. Blessings & Safe Travels from MJ (Mary-Jane) & family.

This property was part of a large tree farm that was owned and operated by a well-respected and well-known family in the community. The family subdivided the land before selling the property. The beauty and serenity - and the variety of trees - still exists to this day. Learn more about this land:This cozy, private, and peaceful spot is shaded by mature spruce and pine next to a ravine leading down to a small creek and more than 3 kilometres of hiking/snowshoe trails that meander through the forest and along the creek. Frisbees and horseshoes are available for guests' use. Soak in the peaceful environment and relax in our hammocks or chairs. Two friendly dogs and two friendly cats live on the property and are sure to give you a warm welcome, just as their owners will. Less than 10 min away are lakes and environmental reserves for paddling and fishing, hiking and bicycling, and geocaching. The best camping near Pigeon Lake Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

Just outside Edmonton, Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is an easy and accessible retreat for the whole family any time of year. In summer, explore the lake by boat or SUP board while fishing for northern pike. After a float, sunbathe on the beach or start a game of horseshoes. As the afternoon gives way to evening, get cozy around a fire and enjoy a lakeside sunset like no other. In winter, work up a sweat cross-country skiing or embrace the low temperatures and go ice fishing. Explore the park’s shoreline and forest through its network of trails, or monkey around on the playground. The park’s two campgrounds offer spacious sites for tents and RVs. Comfort camping is also available—sleep cozy in an insulated yurt with all the luxuries of home.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for creature comforts: There are eight comfort camping yurts available for rent at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park.
  • Best for lakeside hikes: Pigeon Lake Campground has a trail around most of the lake.
  • Best for avoiding the crowds: Zeiner Campground is typically less crowded than Pigeon Lake Campground.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. This park's close proximity to Alberta's capital city means summertime reservations, at both campgrounds, book up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays. For a summer trip, make a reservation months ahead of time.
  2. Pigeon Lake Campground usually fills up before Zeiner Campground.
  3. There are some winter campsites at Pigeon Lake Campground, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You'll have no trouble snagging a winter site.
  4. Weekends at the eight comfort camping yurts typically book up at the beginning of the reservation season, which starts in May. If you've missed out on a weekend slot, plan a trip during the week instead. The comfort yurts are only available from May to September.

When to go

As one of Alberta's most popular summer recreation sites, campers can get the most out of a trip in July and August, when the beach area is a dream, boaters can make the most of the boat launch, the biking is good fun, and the sunsets last for what feels like hours. That being said, this park is busy! Avoid the bustle by visiting this part of Canada in the fall. Come bundle up and kayak on the lake before it freezes. When you get back to shore, you can warm up by the fire pit and enjoy some s'mores. If you don’t mind Alberta's frigid temperatures, winter camping means you can cross-country ski on the groomed trails and make the most of winterized campsites.

Know before you go

  • The Village at Pigeon Lake is a great place to find groceries, restaurants, cafes, a pharmacy, and a gas station. There's also a concession at Pigeon Lake Campground, which is open during the summer months. The store only accepts cash.
  • Both Pigeon Lake Campground and Zeiner Campground have designated swimming areas, but watch for signage or check Alberta Parks advisories before jumping in. Pigeon Lake sometimes has a blue-green algae advisory in effect. Avoid swimming if that's in place.
  • Fishing is a popular activity at this park, but before casting your line, you'll need a provincial fishing licence. Licences are easy to get online or at many sporting and convenience stores.
