This area was known by the Native Americans as "Pocatalico" (land of the fat doe), and first settled by Europeans around 1890. The property itself was first settled by a man named Mayford Jones, who set the first stones here around 1910. A Jenny Lynn style farmhouse was built and the property was known as one of the best developed farms in the area. Today, the forest has returned to what was once pasture land on the majority of the 100 acre plot, and a small but intensive sustainable forest farm has been taking shape since 2013 under the current host and occupant, who prefers the term "steward" rather than "owner".

This is a 12.5 acre mini farm. We have a garden, bee hive, 30 fruit trees, bamboo, hard wood trees, 4 wheeler trails, a pig, guinea fowl, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, and dogs. We are working on a site for a single meat cow too!
We have 2 sites, 1 is a trailer and 1 is a camping spot/cabin on top of our mountain. The cabin up there was built in the 60-70’s probably and is a total mess. People are welcome to stay in it if they choose. There is plenty of area for multiple tents near the cabin.
The trailer is a basic 1990’s trailer. Everything works in it. There is a furnace, 2 full size beds, a full kitchen and bath. There is a window AC for hot days.

We loved our stay at the A-Frame. It was more secluded than expected which was nice. It is about 1/4 mile from where you park. Logan will help you haul your stuff in his Gator which was super helpful when we were leaving in the rain. We had a peaceful stay and explored Lake Hope State Park, dined at Pleasant Hill Winery, and enjoyed Jennifer's delicious homemade and locally sourced breakfast burritos.

The land was beautiful and well maintained. We stayed one night as a quick stop on a longer trip. Jennifer was very sweet and had the site prepped with water and fire wood for us. the bathroom was clean.

Weekend Trip to Harvest and Hive Farms
Had a great stay at Stanley's "Mountain Trailer with Views" campsite! We needed a place to stay for a work weekend, and every nearby place was booked up, but at Stanley's we felt we had an even better time than our co-workers who'd gotten a hotel room. The views were beautiful and it was certainly a step up from tent camping! Maybe a little dusty, but the trailer was sanitary with a working stove, comfy beds, and hot water, so we didn't mind. Great potential and a fun weekend getaway - wish we'd had the chance to check out the trails on the property, but we'll be back next time!

The cabin itself was cozy and comfortable, and the host went above and beyond by providing plenty of fresh drinking water and campfire wood. 6 nights at Dexter Run Farms and Lodging
We had a lovely time camping on Adam's stunning property! The Bear Den was impeccably clean with super comfy beds. The cabin has quite literally everything you could need/want. Usually we go a little bit more rustic, but having AC, a TV, and wifi was a nice treat.
There was soo much to do. We had a blast fishing in the private pond, swimming in the shared one, having campfires at night with the provided firewood, and going to explore the property a bit on the very well maintained hiking trails. And WOW, they weren't kidding about the starry nights here. Breathtaking.
If you're planning to stay here, definitely make sure to pick up groceries/bait for fishing on your way in as you are a ways out from the nearest grocery store/bait shop. Make sure to grab salt, cooking oil, and nightcrawlers. 🪱
Adam was very friendly, we ran into him a few times and he was super welcoming and helpful, but I greatly appreciate that he gave us plenty of privacy. I also got to meet the younger farm dog, which absolutely made my day. You can really tell that they put so much thought and energy into giving you the best stay possible.

Absolutely loved the little A frame cabin. So cute and cozy! There was a 5 gallon jug of water and bundles of wood (1 is included, more can be purchased!) waiting for us at camp. It was a short, but beautiful, hike to the cabin. We didn't use the outdoor shower but we did check it out - its heated! The outhouse was close to camp, that was nice. My husband loved fishing in the pond. My dog had a blast - lots of wildlife to watch and she was so curious about the goats 😂 we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!

1 night at 5 Leaf Farm
We had a great stay at the treehouse. Rob, the host welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed. Our bed was comfortable and the toilet/shower area was within feet. We enjoyed spending time in the hammocks beneath the treehouse and the artisian drinking water provided was most refreshing. The property is very peaceful and we enjoyed the walk through the woods to the waterfall area. The dogs and cats on staff were spot on as well. We would definitely return and highly reccommend.

Amazingly beautiful location! The waterfall and cove area was a short hike away from the main house, and is totally worth going to even when it's just a trickle. There are a lot of carpenter bees and wasps living in the treehouse, but no one got stung and we coexisted well. Just something to think about if you are afraid of flying, stinging insects. The shower in the bathhouse is great, and the camping toilet worked well enough. Rob is a great host! He was communicative and always answered our questions quickly. The farm dogs are friendly and adorable, but will rush your car to greet you which might be overwhelming to some dogs. Totally would recommend staying here overall.

Weekend Trip to Birdhouse Farm Camp And Cabin
We loved the pond side cabin due to the privacy, beauty of the land and comfort of the adorable a-frame. During the peak heat of the day, the a-frame's pull-out hatch provided shade and easy-to-hang mosquito netting provided protection from insects.
The pond was a magical setting with a canoe and fishing gear available.
The trails were marked and mowed and really enjoyable to hike. We especially enjoyed the climb of the Pawpaw trail.
The outhouse was close-by. We did not use the shower but liked knowing it was there.
It rained the second morning and the hatch kept everything dry while allowing us to enjoy the rainfall from the comfort of bed.
It's a relatively easy hike to and from the campsite and it's quite picturesque past the farm and through the trails.
Highlights included the cutest and friendliest campsite cat and delicious breakfast burritos prepared by Jennifer and delivered right on time to our cabin.
We highly recommend this beautiful place for a getaway which is conveniently located near Strouds Run (which we visited for hiking) and Athens (which we visited for Whit's custard).

I highly recommend staying with Jennifer !! The Pond Side Cabin was absolutely beautiful and lovely. The hosts were very courteous and hospitable. The campsite itself was very private, and the versatility of being able to open/close the side of the cabin allowed for very fun and immersive nights. The food Jennifer cooked for us was professional grade and knocked out any expectations I could have had out of the park. Overall I highly recommend this campsite and I will be returning!
