Weekend Trip to The Oysterhouse Landing

This is probably my favorite Hipcamp experience to date. Being able to hook the trailer up that close to the water with dreamy views, getting fresh blue crabs right off the dock when the fishermen come in, my kids being thoroughly entertained catching little crabs and snails in the water. And the kindest host, Rod, who I am especially grateful showed patience with my super talkative six-year old boy 😆. Honestly- this was a GREAT stay, beautiful and memorable, and we hope to return someday.

Specular place and host! This is why i love this app so much! Very private , dogs roaming free, beautiful dock, grassy area, i brought my 36 foot diesel pusher. Patty was just so kind and concerned we had all what we needed! So grateful for land owners like Patty who share there space as this truly is one of a kind!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Harbor View RV Site. Judi and Barry were great hosts, making us and our dog Gracie feel at home on their property. We didn’t get to fully enjoy the incredible dock and waterfront, it was chilly and windy, so we spent time checking out Colonial Beach and George Washington Birthplace Nat Mon. It was our 49th wedding anniversary so we asked for a restaurant recommendation. Judi and Barry both recommended Sunflower in Colonial Beach, it did not disappoint. I highly recommended this place and hope to return in warmer weather.

The farm is great. And owners very friendly and helpful. Horse sheep chicken cows great little farm and family. Lots of trains passing nearby.

21 nights at The Sanctuary at Oaks

SOMD is known for it's history and farmland. The Oaks is a retired horse sanctuary located less than 10 minutes away from conveniences. It's located in a private country setting, conveniently located at the northern end of St. Mary's. With open fields, there's plenty acres of space to explore, bird watch, as well as do some pretty awesome star gazing on clear nights. It's mostly quiet... the property does neighbor a police gun-range and the hosts do have hounds, and at night you can hear the owls and foxes, but all country noises that didn't bother us at all. We (toddler and dog) enjoyed the serenity, picking dandelions, searching for bugs, looking at the horses, and watching the property come back to life during spring. We had the entire site to ourselves, Beth made sure to check-in periodically to make sure we were ok and to inform us of any guests that would be staying at their Air BnB and her husband would come take our trash away, it's a sanctuary for sure.

Beautiful example of the coastal chesepeak bays...perfect night on the waterfront. Roderick was extremely accommodating, yet non intrusive, thank you! I would stay here again without hesitation...be self sufficient though, it is primitive camping. Exactly what we were looking for!

I camp alone with a small truck camper and a fishing boat. I wanted a quiet site with Mobjack Bay access. This location is perfect. The first day the wind was high so I fished from the shore and his dock. At sun rise the following morning, I launched my boat on beautiful, calm water, and spent the morning exploring the area. I will come back often. I communicated with Rod when I arrived and he was helpful in selecting the best spot for current conditions. When I was leaving, he gave me fishing spots for my next trip.

Earthwalk Ways Retreat

We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

A gravel boat ramp is adjacent to this property and is suitable for launching boats up to 28'. There are multiple sites on the property that are suitable for launching canoes, kayaks, and other small boats. You may berth your boat at our private dock. A full service marina is located 1 mile away, via either water or land. Situated in a quiet and peaceful rural setting, the Severn River is a boater's and sportsman's paradise offering excellent fishing for the angler. Diverse waters for both the powerboater and the sailor. Clean beaches and water for swimming and tubing. Miles of pristine shoreline for the kayaker to explore. If you are fortunate enough to be here when the waterman return to the dock with their fresh catch of crabs or oysters--- they just might sell you some right off of the boat! Nothing is better than a truly fresh meal of Chesapeake Bay seafood, and the harvest that lands at our docks is world class. Conveniently located 15 minutes from Yorktown, VA. which offers many historic and modern attractions, including an excellent white sand swimming beach. 35 minutes from Williamsburg, Va. with it's many historic attractions and visitor amenities. 35 minutes from Busch Gardens and Water Country theme parks, and 1 hr from King's Dominion theme park. Be aware that this is a working waterfront, and as such you should expect very early activity and noise as commercial fisherman head out in pursuit of their days catch. Situated in an area of coastal salt marsh which can become "buggy" when the wind is still. Have insect repellent available. Host is a seasoned camper and regularly boondocks in a camper van.

As a result, there is wildlife and birds galore. Hummingbirds will delight you as will the tree frogs and lizard frogs at the frog pond canoe. Wander down the path to our first vegetable garden location which is now a prime spot for pitching a tent or just hanging out and watching for deer, turkeys, or turtles. It is equipped with hook ups for water, sewer, and Electric- 50 and 30 amp are available. There is phone service and WiFi. The space is just off the road but has a private, tranquil feeling. There is an uninterrupted yard space to walk a dog (on leash only). Please be aware, the site is on the same property as a rental but separated by a fence. The tenant has dogs that you may hear bark from time to time but for the most part it’s a quiet, peaceful place to hookup for a night or more, depending on your needs. There is no water available during winter months or when temperatures do not allow.
