3 nights at Mane Gait Equestrian Center

The views were beautiful. Mornings (sunrises) and evenings (sunsets) are breathtaking. All the horses were just an added bonus. The huge pile of horse manure behind the stalls where we stayed was the only downside. It'd be nice if the used an open part of their property to store it away from camping guests. We enjoyed our stay.

We were surrounded by gorgeous horses, stunning sunrises and sunsets, and the Blue Ridge Mountains in every direction... what more could you want?! Friendly people and clean bathrooms too (no shower). Check out Layne's country store and Natural Bridge State Park nearby. We would definitely stay here again, hopefully when the cidery across the street is open!

My 2nd stay at Mane Gait Equestrian Center/ site#1. Was able to get off roads while 2days of bad weather passed thru.. Not far from Natural Bridge S.P.. Stayed here month prior when heading to FL. Close to main roads. No road noise, full AT& T signal. Thank you so much Sydney! I would definitely stay here again.

1 night at Mane Gait Equestrian Center

I love animals, so the idea of camping at an equestrian center was awesome. I found it when I was heading north on a long road trip but apparently, was driving into a snowstorm. This place was just off the highway easy to find. Everything was already covered in snow so it was hard to know where to park but the host’s brother in law saw I was a bit confused and helped get all set up. Sydney was also extremely responsive and reached out immediately. The storm passed and in the morning I was able to view the mountain range clearly - nestled on a hill. My dog enjoyed the snow and space quite freely - there were no horses in the stalls outside because of the storm but I did get to see them in the distance and on my way out in the morning. I really enjoyed it and would come back!

I had a wonderful stay at Mane Gait Equestrian Center/#1.. The property was pristine and plenty of walking trails to enjoy. And where else can you see such a beautiful view in the morning while having a cup of coffee?… the Blue Ridge Mountains along the skyline were really fabulous. Thank you so much Sydney! I would definitely stay here again.

We had an unforgettable stay with Lacie and her family during our road trip! Their warm welcome and generosity deeply touched us. They even let us ride horses, a magical moment we will always remember. Their home is inviting, and their hospitality is exceptional. Thank you again for this wonderful experience!

The host was extremely communicative to ensure we got to the right spot and switched to a more ideal location due to rainy conditions. Beautiful, well maintained horse farm that was nice to wake up to. All of the amenities were as described and useful. Quick but great trip!

A couple friends and I van camped and Lacie and her family were extremely hospitable. Beautiful farm land and we even got to feed the horses, goats, and sheep! Very quiet. We slept great and had a lovely morning to enjoy our coffee before heading out.

Mane Gait is conveniently located right off route 81 and can accommodate large rigs. You won't find better views of the blue ridge mountains on this gorgeous working horse farm. We have hiking trails through beautiful private scenery for beginners to advanced hikers. Pets are welcome if leashed! Picnic area on site as well as laundry machine. We are 10 minutes from downtown historic Lexington Virginia that provides great restaurants and lots of history in the charming town of Lexington. Site 2 should be booked for smaller campers around 25 feet. Site 1 is better for larger campers.

Welcome to RRF! We are a small ranchette that specializes in sheep, horses, and chickens. Located in Victoria Virginia, the farm is an hour to Richmond, 45 minutes to Farmville, and 45 minutes from John Kerr reservoir (on the boarder of NC). We are pet friendly, and the property is completely fenced. Enjoy free unlicensed fishing on property in our pond, stocked with catfish and bluegills, or let the pups swim away the summer heat. Enjoy a walk on the nearby Tobacco Trail, fish at one of the many nearby rivers and lakes. Roast marshmallows over a fire and stargaze or catch fireflies all night. All sites have access to a portable compost toilet, and we can provide water for the sun showers. We have tent sites, and an RV site, 420friendly but we do not partake. PLEASE NOTE: No Check In After 9PM! The camp sites are only available with direction of host ( new closer parking area and camp area access gate for 2025!!) Exceptions can be made in an emergency stay. THINGS TO DO IN TOWN: Bike or hike the Tobacco Trail and see the railroad park. Local farmers market and livestock sales- down town. The lake at the VFW- good fishing and lovely strolling paths See the falls or fish and hike at Nottaway Falls. NEAR BY ATTRACTIONS: Swim, relax and enjoy the waterfall at Whittle’s Mill- 35 min drive. John Karr Dam and Reservoir- great sandy swimming beaches. Fishing, hiking and picnic areas. Best place ever! 45 minutes south. . Amenities/ Activities: friendly sheep, goats and horses to pet and feed metal detectors to borrow free fishing and poles provided free fire wood- collect your own or from cut piles laundry for a fee in house pots and pans to cook grill for site upon request free fresh eggs Horse rides available for donation which helps offset feed or veterinary needs. This experience may not be available due to weather or other factors, be sure to talk to us prior to your visit to determine availability and requirements. Your off leash pets must be ok with chickens. We do have an overly excited friendly blue Heeler that roams our farm.

Where to go

Central Virginia

Gleaming lakes and pine-clad foothills characterize the central Piedmont region, known for its lakeside camping, canoe and kayak trails, and Civil War sites. Pocahontas State Park is just a half-hour drive from the state capital, Richmond, where multi-use trails are popular for biking and horseback riding. Also within a short drive, Bear Creek Lake State Park offers easy access to Cumberland State Forest trails, while James River State Park has RV, tent, and canoe-in campsites.

Atlantic Coast & Chesapeake Bay

Wide beaches and fishing villages pepper the coast of Chesapeake Bay, Virginia’s top choice for beach lovers. You can pitch your tent right on the beach at First Landing State Park and False Cape State Park, camp on the grounds of Chippokes Plantation State Park, or get on the water at York River State Park.

Shenandoah Valley & The North

The dense woodlands are the star attraction in Shenandoah National Park and along its renowned Skyline Drive. The closest state campgrounds can be found in Shenandoah River State Park, a popular spot for summer hiking, canoeing, and picnicking, while further south, Douthat State Park has a swimming beach, waterfall hikes, and mountain biking trails.

Appalachian & Blue Ridge Mountains

The rugged Appalachian Mountains fringe Virginia’s southwestern borders, merging into the wooded slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Grayson Highlands State Park is the gateway to the region’s two most popular hikes: the Appalachian Trail and Mount Rogers. Alternatively, paddle the scenic waterways of New River Trail State Park, book a cabin in the woods in Hungry Mother State Park, or escape the crowds at Clinch River State Park.
