It's lambing time!!! This is the best time of year to visit us, as maximum cuteness is running around just a short walk across the suspension bridge from where you will be staying! We currently have 11 newborn lambs all less than two weeks old (two new arrivals today!) and two ewes are still waiting to deliver. Who knows...maybe they will wait til you get here! Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit. The yurt sits under the trees next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire. The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet. This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt. Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We had an amazing stay at this yurt in New Hampshire! The space was cozy, clean, and thoughtfully set up, making it the perfect mix of comfort and nature. We were thankful for the snow, and even more grateful for the plow out in the morning. Loved our time here, and exploring the area.

We had such a lovely and relaxing time this weekend at the “Mutley” Yurt Site with our two dogs. The property is beautiful and they have done a fantastic job of building out the two sites, which are close to one another to make for a fun group trip, but separate enough to still give you privacy from one another. The yurt was fully stocked with supplies such as cooking equipment, utensils, water jug, LED lantern, propane stovetop, etc. so we were able to pack pretty lightly. We chose to come on a snowy and chilly weekend and the gas fireplace inside kept the whole yurt super toasty, even on a low setting.. so this is definitely winter friendly! Shannon and her husband were both very helpful with making sure we had everything we needed, including starting the fireplace before we arrived so the Yurt was nice and toasty for us. We would love to come back and visit again, maybe even with a bigger group since there are the two sites!

Weekend Trip to Back 80 Yurt

Spent a weekend catching up with friends here. The yurt is amazing, super comfortable and warm with the wood stove, easy to cook on the gas range, water nearby for cleaning up. Brought our own potable water. Nice privy. Left some extra supplies behind for the next people which seems like a well established tradition. We hiked around Welton falls to the AMC lodge, saw a black bear, hiked Oregon Mt the next day. We will definitely be looking to return in the summer.

4 nights at Willard Pond Sanctuary Retreat

This was a lovely yurt, very well appointed with all the right furniture (and not too much) and an efficient wood stove. It's on a quiet dirt road that leads to the boat launch for Willard Pond, so I could drive my kayak down but it was an easy walk when I didn't have the boat to carry. The water's very clear and looks lovely for swimming (just not in November!) and the surrounding land is an Audubon sanctuary with some well-marked trails and great views. (Warning: lots of deer ticks!!) A fantastic getaway!

Absolutely loved this spot and the Yurt. It was so toasty warm and a cozy bed. We cooked on the grill and used the Coleman stove provided. We enjoyed a 6 hour long campfire and toasted marshmallows and played Gin. Loved the furnace / stove in the yurt. The hosts were so clear and lovely. We felt lucky to stay and nest here.

Our stay at the Riley was a perfect weekend getaway. Shannon was a terrific host from the start making sure that we had everything we needed. The yurt was set up upon our arrival with a cozy gas fired stove for heating, a Coleman cook stove and most everything we might need in the way of utensils. The outdoor firepit was a perfect spot to relax. Pisgah State Park trail head entrance is just across from the campsite and was a easy walk to lots of beautiful hiking. We loved our time there, and would definitely recommend The Riley to our friends.

We really enjoyed our three night stay at Trollhaugen! It was relaxing and peaceful. The setting was perfect and private though we could see and hear the farm animals across the brook. We did venture over the very cool “troll” bridge, to visit the animals. The area was beautiful and the people at the general store greeted my husband every morning as he went for coffee as if he were an old friend. Bring coffee if you want to make it yourself and get ice at the grocery store as the general store didn’t have any when we were there. Otherwise, the rustic yurt was well-equipped with everything else we needed. The bed was comfy, the eggs were delish and even with the extreme heat, sleeping was comfortable with our little fan and the windows open. The indoor bathroom with a shower was an A+ for me! My kind of camping - with shelter, a bed and a private bath.

We had a great time staying at the yurt. There were all the amenities- the kitchen, compost toilets, shower, running water, stove, etc. The stay was very comfortable. Impromptu farm tour by the host Johanna was great! The creek runs right next to the yurt and has a fun suspension bridge on it. And there's a little tree swing!!!! Loved the place. Would visit again!

The grounds are left very natural so if we went back I would have brought some tall thick socks and bug spray. The guide in the yurt helped a lot with finding coffee and food.

Shannon's yurt was the perfect place to spend a rainy day. The photos on the listing are accurate. The wood stove kept us warm all day & night. (At the time of writing, they start you out with some wood for the stove and then you pay $8 a bundle after that.) The skylight at the top was all the light we needed for most of the day. And there is a state park with trails right across the street!! The food prep/cook situation was similar to car camping - a coleman double burner stove, some plates/cups, some utensils, a pan or two. If you have specific prep needs, I suggest communicating with Shannon beforehand so you all can figure out if they can provide it or you oughta bring it. Shannon was very helpful and communicative! Everything we needed, she was able to help us out, including finding the house, which was a little tricky. It's not stated on the listing, and I think it's helpful to know: you will need a 4wd or all wheel drive vehicle to drive up to the yurt, especially during any precipitation or icy conditions. We did not have that so we parked at the bottom and walked up the hill - somewhere between 50 and 100 yards. *This site is not ADA accessible* Highly recommend Shannon's yurt if you have no accessibility needs and are down for a low amenity glamping situation!! I would definitely love to return!!
