Camping spot includes: unlimited river access, use of kayaks and paddle boards, a semi-private outdoor shower with hot and cold water, a rinse off shower and a clean outdoor port-a-potty that is regularly sanitized.
No personal/composting toilets allowed. Please only use the restroom in the portalet provided.
Small campfires are allowed (burn ban permitting). Campers are responsible for bringing their own firewood.

. Twisted Oaks is located on 20 acres of tree lined Texas Hill Country nestled in the heart of San Marcos. I've been here over 35 years. I work on my property and from my property. My shop is away from campsites but is ON the property. If seeing a tractor while you are hiking around offends you somehow this may not be a good choice. I have taken a lot of care and pride in my work on twisted oaks.
We have 10-15 campsites all named after the colors in a rainbow. We offer rentals of kayaks, coleman camp stoves, triple burner propane very large, mr buddy propane heaters jackery 1000 watt and bluetti 600 watt solar generators or a tent if this your first time. payment for extras can be cash or Venmo. If you have any special needs please feel free to contact me. thanks and hope to see you soon. to reduce impact on our property we limit the vehicles to 1 per site any extra vehicle is $5 smalls $7 trucks. This fee is used to do mulching and road repairs to keep things smooth. If you decide to change dates there will be a $25- $50 fee based on your total booking
We sell seasoned oak and juniper hardwood. We are a small microbusiness and would really appreciate if you purchase wood here rather than at a large box store. It is your choice but just so you know you will get twice the wood for maybe half the price. We sell a large wheelbarrow load for $20 or half load for $10. Kindling is gratis.
Please check the weather forecast before booking. Texas weather can change on a dime. Also if it is raining in Austin or San Antonio it may be bone dry here. We can not be responsible for the weather or your selection of gear. I prefer winter camping with a nice fire and a cup of coffee. We have invested in clothing and gear to withstand below freezing temps.
When campers book we go through a routine to make sure all sites are ready for YOU. There are times were we have had to change or modify our plans to accommodate our "guests" . Changing dates will incur a small fee. Please be fair. Our cancellation policy is strict and it it set as such to protect campers and host alike.
We set a high standard for our camp but this is to ensure that all campers will have a great experience. Pay attention to the rules. Using common sense is what we ask. Treat our property as you would have us treat your place...it's really that simple. Hope this does not scare you away. Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is an excellent place to camp. We’ve transformed 45 acres of what was once an active rock quarry just 15 years ago, into a healthy, regenerative, green space as well as an event and training venue.
Our venue is nestled in the middle of the rapidly growing suburban landscape around us in north San Antonio. We purchased the property five years ago from good friends who had already started the mission of revitalizing the land.
Today, 39 of the acres are in “preservation” status, which means that we are letting the natural micro-ecosystems that have developed from what remained of the quarrying activities 15 years ago to develop on their own. We hope to always keep this acreage in that status for generations to enjoy.
The remaining 6 acres is wooded, where we live, have gardens, farm animals and where we interface equitably with our environment.
Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree / plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens). Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower. [Please be advised that besides campers, we also host homesteading, wilderness survival and herbal medicine classes on our site. So, you might have company, but you'll definitely have room for privacy. ]

Wow! There is not one negative mention I can type out about our adventures at the beautiful and magical Robin’s Nest. Myself and my two young daughters were warmly welcomed by Shellie’s most thoughtful design of her secret hideout amongst the oaks. It was a quick drive from a busy day in Austin where the nature and quiet we’re so needed. Shellie has thought of everything for this amazing getaway. We could have gotten away with not bringing a thing. A quaint treehouse, overlooking a pond, nature all around, two more ponds a short stroll away. Our favorite part, the seclusion. An escape from the busyness and chaos of the world. Being able to cook dinner by the fire, hear the bullfrogs croaking and take a soak in the outdoor tub overlooking the evening. Do yourself a favor and invite the day with a grateful heart while showering in the open air shower. Sun rising, view of robins and chickadees while appreciating the whisper of the oaks all around. At Robins Nest we were explorers. We were artist, we were fisherman. We were silly, we were fun. We lived out every child’s dream, including my own inner child. We were storytellers. We were one with nature. We were dreamers. We disconnected and reconnected to ourselves and each other. I highly recommend this getaway and look forward to a visit once again. Primitive camping or self contained campers, stay on the ledge of our hill side, away from the hives and north of our farmhouse. A game fence protects our guests from wildlife, and our recapped and graded hard packed limestone road base driveways lead you up to sites to choose from. Under the stars, under some oaks, on the Stoney Ridge overlooking a fossil line, or under some cedars, at the barn... all have great privacy.
Toilet port a john, and the barn sink accessible 24 hours. Hipcampers are to follow trash and biosecurity rules on premises. Honeybee yards are located far south of the campsites, no trespassing around the livestock.
Extremely quiet, peaceful and wild, your view of Wimberley valley on our mountainside hike, and a visit to Jacobs Well Nature Preserve on Mount Sharp Road will make this stop worth it, as we are only an 8 min slow drive to Jacobs Well Preserve. Welcome to our Bee and Berries Farm.

20 miles away, situated along a one-mile stretch of the spring-fed Blanco River, the small but mighty Blanco State Park is very family-friendly, offering the spectacular Falls Dam, nature trails, fishing, tubing, kayaking, and deep water for a good, refreshing swim. The stocked river is teeming with largemouth and Guadalupe bass, catfish, sunfish, and rainbow trout, and can be an excellent place for beginning anglers (you can even borrow equipment for free).
Swimming at holes, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and birding are a few of the quintessential outdoor Texan activities visitors enjoy most at Pedernales State Park, located near the area of Texas Hill Country where former President Lyndon B. Johnson grew up. Next to the famed Pedernales River, the park is an hour west of Austin, an hour east of Fredericksburg, and about 20 minutes from downtown Johnson City. Wineries and distilleries are a short drive away in nearby Dripping Springs and Stonewall.
