2 nights at Carpathia West

I took this trip with my adult son and I was as tranquil and a bounty of wildlife. The sunsets are great and you’re perch on a hill overlooking a lake so quite scenic. If you want to totally disconnect be at peace and rough it a little this is the place for you. There is a a generator for light, heat and a refrigerator. We took our own portable compost and a small rinse king system to wash up.. Cooking outside was a thrill for my son as well, we gather wood from the surroundings. Konsztantine was very responsive and quite hospitable. Quick responses to whatever we asked. Best in class host. I will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

This is a nice spacious site, the creek is a nice feature. Scott provided ample firewood. The shooting range while not close by can be heard. If you are camping with dogs that are afraid of fireworks, this is not a good site. Both my dogs are seasoned campers but we usually camp to get away from the fireworks🙂. The outhouse was further away than we anticipated, wasn’t an issue for us but something to keep in mind.

Nice large, open and private spot by a river. We took a swim in the river after a hike up the hill next to camp to the coffee and chocolate shop. The property itself is pretty and pleasant to walk around. You can also walk to Tanner Falls down the road. It's mostly a walk on a dirt road more than a hike, but pleasant and a nice site to stop and see. The site was well kept, with a clean out house a few minutes walk across the road. Host was very kind and helpful. On arrival he showed us his garden (where we were given permission to pull a few veggies from) and took us to the local trail. The site is by a road, so you can hear some cars every so often but it's not super busy. There's also state game lands nearby, we heard a few gun shots late at night but they were definitely a far off away. I would happily come back to camp again!

This place is phenomenal. You can see that the owners really care, everything is so nicely made in clean like I really upgraded Hotel. The hot tub took me about six hours to get my desired temperature. Part of it was because I didn’t know. I have to close the door while it was burning. But after all, it was well worth the work! I have noticed over the years there are two types of places, one, is where the owner wants to make money and have no choice, but to serve so he can collect from his guest money. Two, an owner that wants to serve his guest, but has no choice and have to charge money in order to stay open and be able to serve more people The owners from this place are from the second category, they want to give and serve their guest. You can feel it in every aspect. Thank you

I booked our stay on Hipcamp. Nowhere on the site did it say you could not drive up to your campsite. Ferncrest’s own site says that but it was not on Hipcamp that I saw. That really was something that I was extremely disappointed in. The whole purpose of renting there was so that we wouldn’t need to unload all of our gear and reload it back up. We wanted to leave our camping gear in our truck and pull things out as needed. Although there was a driveway at the campsite and a perfectly good circle road around the campsite, Ferncrest had it blocked off and we had to bring all of our gear down to it with a wagon. We chose this to save ourselves from all of the camping hassles. So I personally probably would not come back. With that said … Ferncrest was AMAZING in every other aspect!! I would HIGHLY recommend it. The tent itself was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The view was exquisite!! The beds made us all want to stay in them. The owners were very thoughtful of the needs of their guests.

We had a great weekend at Brian and Joanna's Fern Crest Campground. It was a last minute trip for us. We booked a Dome with 2 double beds and a hot tub. (no King hot tubs available) We knew it was going to be a rainy weekend but that was ok because we just wanted to relax. We love the vibe of the campground and what Brian and Joanna have done with it and hope to see it continue to grow. The campground is not too far off the road so you can hear traffic going by but it wasn't to the point of being distracting. The domes were clean and adorable. The only thing that would have been great would be either hangers for the rack or some hooks near the door. We had umbrellas and raincoats and nowhere to really hang them up while they were wet. The retro ice cream and coffee campers were such a great addition and the woman at both, I believe her name is Sue, was so nice and personable. She was helpful with any questions we had and gave suggestions for things to do in the area. Because of the rain, we ended up pushing the beds aside in the dome and put our camping chairs up in front of the window and used the cooler that came with the dome as a makeshift table for us to play games on and eat from. The beds were comfy and the linens were soft and smelled fresh. The bathrooms and showers were also clean and the soaps, shampoos, and conditioners all smelled great. We will definitely be staying here again and hopefully bringing friends and family with us! Thank you for such a great stay!
