Forested creekside campsite

1 site · RV, Tent72 acres · Grants Pass, OR
Hey there!  I'm a single dad with 2 teen-kids, medical professional, who enjoys country living and sharing it with others.  I've lived in far-Northern CA and Southern Oregon my whole life, except for school/training, so State of Jefferson is my home.  We bought this land in 2017, when it was just brush, poison oak, and a rotten bridge.   Learn more about this land:Campsite on 72 acres along beautiful Jumpoff Joe Creek.  Shaded, adjacent to romantically lighted timber-frame private covered bridge (no traffic).  Very secluded, but only 1/2 mile from I-5 (no freeway noise, though).  Private "beach" area and kid-friendly water play area with wild creatures (turkey, deer, fish, crayfish, water striders, turtles, frogs, etc.). Picnic table, tent spots, and fresh water spigot.  Short hiking trails (watch out for poison oak!).  Best for tenting, smaller RV's, tree tents, or rooftop tents.  >100 yards from nearest structure. 3 nights max except by private arrangement.    NO smoking/vaping/marijuana.  NO wood fires, but propane fire-ring is available -- bring your own propane tank or pay $5 extra to use my propane tank if available.  Good cell service from Google Fi/USCellular.  WiFi available on porch of owner's house by request.

Picnik Place

1 site · RV, Tent20 acres · Bend, OR
Hi and welcome to Picnik Place! This is a 20 acre farm, so there is plenty of land to roam free and explore, as well as having your privacy from the primary residents. With this spot, you are nestled under a juniper tree with a lava rock backdrop and can watch the sun dip below the volcanos in the distance. This spot is very simple and tucked away. There is an off-grid solar power hook-up that you can use, but it will not be enough power to run the AC and toaster oven at the same time! While feeling remote and removed from the Bend tourism, it only takes 15 minutes to get downtown, where there are ample restaurants, shops, coffehouses, etc. It takes 7 minutes to get to Trader Joe's and Home Depot, and 10 minutes to get to St. Charles Hospital.

The Enclave

1 site · RV10 acres · Mitchell, OR
55’ RV spot with electricity located on a 10-acre plot with stunning views of basalt rimrocked mountains and lush green fields that extend from the John Day River. One mile from the Twickenham Bridge, a dropping-off or arriving point for floaters of the John Day River. Also close to the Painted Hills, John Day Fossil Beds, and Blue Basin which rank as some of the most interesting and beautiful sites in the Northwest. If you’re looking for a mind-blowing stargazing experience, Twickenham is the place. The Oregonian designated the area of the John Day Fossil Beds as one of Oregon’s 8 best stargazing spots. The fossil beds lie under some of the darkest skies in the state, which also includes Twickenham. It's a place where darkness brings the universe to life. If you have never seen a clear, starry sky from a place devoid of light pollution then you’re in for a real treat. With the naked eye alone, from a dark site, on a clear night you’ll see thousands of stars, meteors, the zodiacal light, airglow, satellites, the milky way, nebulas, and occasionally auroras, comets and UFOs. You’ll find Twickenham in the darkest sky zone by using the Dark Site Finder. The John Day Fossil Beds is a complex of incredible natural attractions that burst with color in the daylight. The Painted Hills (one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon) and Blue Basin (a Seven Wonders runner up) rank as some of the most interesting and beautiful sites in the Northwest. Have a fun day floating the John Day River or sightseeing at the Painted Hills, and then come stay in Twickenham for an evening of stargazing that’s out of this world! Enjoy the wildlife. Guests frequently hear coyotes and see deer, elk, and all kinds of birds including pheasants, quail, chuckers, magpies, hummingbirds, and resident long horned owls, Oswald and Amelia. Electricity is provided via a solar and wind turbine generator. The generator includes a 12V Port (up to 240 watts of power), a 120V 30amp AC outlet, two USB ports, and three 120V AC outlets. Please bring any adapters that you might need. You should be able to tap into WiFi from the Enclave Lounge, your campsite, and the parking area. Water is available via a hose upon request. 50 gallons maximum per day. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times as there are cats that roam the property. The property also features a 6,120 sq ft fenced-in garden space and a lavender crop. Fresh produce and lavender is available during the summer season. Workstays are available. Please inquire.

Private RV camping in Oregon guide

Overview

Oregon has long been known as an outdoor destination, with snow-capped mountains, rugged high desert, Pacific Coast beaches, and roaring rivers all within a few hours’ drive of one another. While Portland attracts visitors with its celebrated food scene and music venues, Oregon offers much more for those who’d prefer a quieter getaway out in nature. If you’ve come to camp or hike, you’ll have no shortage of options to choose from—in fact, there are 11 national forests, hundreds of state parks and recreation areas, and 2.5 million acres of protected wilderness within the state’s borders.

Where to go

The Willamette Valley

Extending from the border with Washington state down to the community of Springfield, the Willamette Valley is Oregon’s main economic and cultural hub. Although it’s home to the state’s three most populated cities (Portland, Salem, and Eugene), much of the Willamette Valley is dominated by forests and countryside, with plenty of state parks, hiking and mountain biking trails, hot springs, and rivers.

Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge

Just east of Portland on the border with Washington, the Columbia River Gorge offers easy access to miles of hiking trails, waterfalls, and great skiing and snowboarding. The adjacent Mt. Hood region has equally beautiful scenery and is as popular for winter skiing and snowboarding as it is for hiking, swimming, and camping in the summer months.

The Oregon Coast

This region is popular year-round, attracting whale-watching fans in the cooler months and campers and hikers in the summer months. Popular Oregon Coast activities include hiking, tide pool viewing, clamming, crabbing, off-road vehicle rides on the sweeping Oregon Dunes, and sampling world-famous cheese and ice cream in Tillamook. While some brave souls don wetsuits for surfing and diving, the Pacific Ocean waters rarely get warm enough for comfortable dips. Some of the area’s best camping options can be found at Harris Beach State Park, Sunset Bay State Park, and Cape Lookout State Park, all of which offer tent camping, yurt rentals, and RV sites with hookups.

Eastern and Central Oregon

Stretching from the portion of the Cascade Range south of the Columbia Gorge all the way east to the Oregon-Idaho border, central and eastern Oregon offer a dryer, sunnier alternative to the rainier parts of the state, with a mix of lush forest and craggy high desert landscapes. Highlights include Deschutes National Forest, popular for backpacking and backcountry stays, while campers in search of a more developed camping experience can head to one of the many Oregon state parks along the Deschutes River, near Bend.

Southern Oregon

Oregon’s southernmost region offers a variety of scenery, with a mix of lakes, forests, and rivers interspersed with rolling expanses of countryside (not to mention some great wineries). The region’s most famous natural attraction is Crater Lake National Park, Oregon’s only national park, set near the southeastern reaches of Umpqua National Forest.
