Franklin county has many activities and places of interest. Explore the historic White water canal, unique shops and dining spots, horseback riding, boating and kayaking as well as offroading. The camp sites are primitive. Fire rings at each site. Firewood is available for purchase (first fire is on the house). A clean portolet is on property. More about the location: 45 acres of combined farmland, prairie reserve, and forest--Pirate Woods is the perfect location for a getaway that still has nearby access to rural community amenities. This property is located 5 minutes from I-70 and 30-45 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. You can also access Knightstown via U.S. 40. Camp Areas: Pirate Woods campsites: are located in an 8 acre forest. There is a communal campfire ring with stocked woodpile for your use. Nearby are a few chairs for your use. You may create a fire ring at your own campsite if a fire ban is not in effect - but please be responsible. Sites 5 and 7 boast the best spots for hammock campers. Fauna: Pirate Woods is home to a variety of animals: great horned owls, deer, a mysterious grey wolf fox, chickens, pileated woodpeckers (and other varieties), finches, rose-breasted grosbeaks and more. Activities and Water: Feel free to walk, jog, or mountain bike the mowed paths. Bringing your own water is best. Though it's a short walk along the property to reach our back barn where there is a spigot available for your use (you may drink it from the tap, but purifying it recommended.) Town (Knightstown): A trip to town is only a 2 minute drive (or bike) away where you can grab Mexican or pub food at local restaurants when you don't feel like cooking over a fire. Pack your essentials and escape to the Little Miami River Valley's best kept secret. Our off-grid cabin and tent campsite is situated on 14 acres along the National and Scenic Little Miami River. Once here, you'll park near our farmhouse on the upper plateau and take a 4 minute hike over the creek, through the meadow, and into the woods. As you approach the cabin and campsite/s, the trail opens up to an acre of green space shaded by large Sycamore, Walnut, and other native trees. Take a dip in the river, enjoy people watching as canoeist pass, or take part by renting a canoe or kayak from Morgan's Outdoor Adventures just a mile up the road. The Little Miami Trail is also less than a mile down the road so bring your bike! Our composting outhouse is serviced between each stay, meaning it's emptied, sanitized, and like new for each new guest. There are two established campfire locations and a picnic table is provided along with several tiki torches. There is plenty of room for tents if additional guests are joining. If interested in having tents provided and set up prior to arrival, see add ons. Add-ons available for additional purchase include bedding (cabin only), a propane grill, tent rental/setup, and firewood. Please note, our cabin site and tent site are the same location. Once one site is booked (e.g. either the tent site or cabin), we'll blackout the dates for the other site option so that you are the only guest/group onsite on any given night.

This property is tucked away and you wouldn’t even know you’re close to town once you’re on site. Valley Vineyards is right down the road to enjoy a bottle of wine and cook your own steak dinner nights. Take a trip to visit Fort Ancient with a day hike. A Native American earthworks complex, the largest hilltop enclosure in the world and soon to be a World Heritage site! Enjoy some canoeing on the Little Miami River a State and National scenic river which is within walking distance. We have kayaks on location for the kids to play in the creek and creeks to hike with numerous fossils deposits. Southwestern Ohio is famous for its Ordovician fossil deposits. Kings Island is approximately 20 minute drive and the Ohio renaissance Festival is near. Caesars creek state park in Cowan lake state park is within a short drive. Smallmouth Bass fishing is awesome on Todd’s Fork and we have plenty of area to Wade fish.
