Enjoy a river oasis, historical sights, and vast dunes when camping near Radium Springs.
Built along the bank of the Rio Grande, Radium Springs contains Leasburg Dam State Park, which draws tent and RV campers to the area. Amenities like picnic tables, grills, vault toilets, showers, dump stations, and full hookups are available for convenience. Walk through the cactus garden, then head to the river to fish, paddle the kayak, or float in a tube. There’s more fun to be had in Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, roughly an hour and a half from Radium Springs. The campground is tent- and RV-friendly, and amenities include hookups for water and electricity, a dump station, showers, and vault toilets. Check out the historic remains of Frenchy’s Cabin, and conquer the challenging Dog Canyon Trail that leads through the scenic Chihuahuan Desert landscape. If there’s time left in the trip, head 30 minutes west into White Sands National Park, to explore the world’s largest gypsum dune field. Primitive backpack camping on the beach is an added treat.
