Wade the Dearborn in the back yard of this 3-bedroom house (fourth bedroom/living room or guide cabin next door ($150/stay to open) on 10 acres of the former Gary Cooper Ranch. Don’t be surprised to see deer, geese and ducks in the window nudging their way near the deck, especially at the spring waterfall that cascades down the slope. if you are especially quiet and observant, the hundreds of acres of park and ranch across the river also have mountain goats, bears, antelope and even the mountain lion.
Help yourself to the library, watch satellite television or DVD movies, or read from the house’s library.
The public put-in is an 11 hour trip; private access to two shorter put-ins make this a recommended site for many Montana guides. Launch from the back yard and float one half mile down the Dearborn River to the Missouri River or from anywhere on the Dearborn to your own private fishing hole among some of nature’s oldest rock outcroppings.
Only few miles from the Missouri Inn over the bridge where the Untouchables was filmed, enjoy the canyon or visit the Lewis and Clark’s Tower Rock and surrounding Park. An exceptional place to set up camp. The campsite, both tent and A frame, sit in a small valley between two mountain sides. You get excellent views all around, there was no pest bugs like mosquitoes, and there is plenty of opportunity for hiking on the property, though trails are still a work in progress. The bathroom and shower are clean, and Kate and Ben were excellent hosts. No signal, but that can be a bonus depending on how you look at it. Overall, sincerely recommend giving this campsite a stay

Such a special place! Conveniently accessed from the highway but still feels quiet and secluded. The surrounding hills make for a beautiful morning hike and the hot shower was a luxurious bonus. We will definitely camp out again next time we're passing through.

Pretty happy I got to experience this spot before it’s booked solid! Really exceptional property and a great campsite. I did not stay in the A-frame but it looked well worth the price. Tucked in a really nice valley with some thoughtful amenities like the shower and outhouse. There is a highway nearby so you’ll hear the occasional truck, but other than that, was extremely private and quiet. Kate was super hospitable and communicative. Will definitely be back here if I get the chance.

Elicia made me feel right at home. The camp is in historic Fort Shaw. The fort is in walking distance as is the military cemetery. Beautiful countryside and the Sun River is close by. Right down the road is Big Sky Deli in Vaughn with all kinds of meats, cheeses, pastries, kombucha and provisions. I love the sounds of the farm animals and so did my pooch! :) I would definitely stay here again!

Elicia was so easy to work with (especially for being on short notice!) and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.
Quite a nice location, the outhouse was great, and the farm animal sounds were a fun bonus.
